WAITING FOR DSR
Posted by Patrick Mc Cafferty on 7 May 2007 at 15:15I have SIGNLAB and a PCUT plotter, both cost a lot of money. I cannot get Signlab to communicate with the plotter. When I press "cut" I get the message "waiting for DSR". This is SO annoying, I got several people to look at it, nobody can fix it. Does anybody know how to solve this problem? Please advise. I am ready to start business from home. Please leave a message if you have the same problem. ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks…

hi patrick
sorry i cannot help mate but i would advise to do some searches on the uksb search fascility based on pcut issues. "there are losts"
signlab is a great software, i use it also… reputable suppliers of the pcut in the uk is alan flynn of flynn signs and signwizard uk, although signwizard will only offer support for their own customers. -
As Robert says, many users PCut users have encountered initial setup problems. This link seems to cover the issue you are having – good luck.

It may be that you are not set on the right port? can you say a bit more about your setup?

Patrick,
I just had a look for drivers for the pcut on cadlinks site, what driver if any have you installed in signlab? there is not one listed from signlab for a pcut, so perhaps you need to use a generic driver? Give your signlab supplier a call, or try the cadlink website forum they are usually more than helpful

DSR – Data Set Ready i would presume.
i am presuming this is a serial port and not usb cable… something on the comms side or bad cable.

Waiting for DSR means "Waiting for Data Set Ready"
It probably means the cable you are using is a custom cable that doesnt wire the DSR/DTR pins.If you have Signlab 7, goto Cut/Plotting Default/Setup.
Go to the PORTS tab.
Put a check in EDIT in the "Current Comm Settings"
Then under FLOW CONTROL, change it to CTS ONLY or to Xon/Xoff
———————————————————–
If you have an older version of Signlab.
Go to Windows/DeviceManager/Port (Com and LPT)
Double click on the correct Comm Port.
Go to the Port Settings Tab
Change the Flow Control to Xon/Xoff
—————————————————
Or get a proper NULL MODEM cable.
——————————————–Either of these will eliminate the Waiting for DSR message.
Hope this cures your problem.Frank at Cadlink

PROBLEM SOLVED! Thanks a million folks for all the help! I spent ages trying to solve this problem but couldn’t. 24 hours after logging onto UKSB I have the problem solved!
Particular thanks to Frank at Cadlink, I followed your advice to the letter and solved the problem in 2 minutes. I must read the manual now and figure out how to use my new PCUT machine. I have plenty experience with Signlab so it shouldn’t take long. Fingers crossed.
Many thanks to each of you.
