    Hi everyone,

We use CorelDraw for artwork design and then use a print and cut workflow to produce a finished control panel overlay. Our problem is with the resolution of the .eps file required by Versaworks. We have problems with graduated fills. The jpg version prints fine but the eps equivalent will not print the graduated colours, just blocks of different shades (not smooth). I have been advised that this is a common problem with eps files and that I should export the file as a pdf. The alternative that I tried was to export the jpg file and export a separate CutContour file. In theory this is ideal but in practice, the two don’t line up. This is due, I think, to the scaling of the jpg file. I could spend a couple of hours trying different scaling figures but I was wondering if anyone else has come across this problem? If so, what was the best solution?

    Thanks,
    Alan

    hi
your problem is not resolution but the number of fountain steps in the export option.

set around 300 more for really fine work.

if its set at 128 default then double its size in the rip you only have 64 steps of a colour change

    Chris,
I set this to 1000 without any difference. I am told it is a well known problem with eps files. I am hoping someone has found a way around it. As a last resort I will spend some time experimenting with scaling.

personally i have not had a problem if i created the file but do when the file comes from elsewhere.
open the eps file in corel and see whats happening.

or impot the jpeg in to corel add the cut path send out as eps

    Chris
    i may have misunderstood & i don’t use corel butwhy can’t you
    1. Have EPS open in Corel
    2. Create cut line
    3. Convert image to bitmap (Set desired DPI) excluding cut line
    4. export as EPS
This will allow you to open in Versaworks & carryout print & cut in one operation. Printing first the Bitmap & then using the eps cut line to contour cut

yes kevin you are correct but he said that the jpeg printed well.
so just a way he could use that jpeg
    as print and cut

    Hi Chris
sorry thought Alan was named Chris 😳 going to be one of them days. By converting the image to Bitmap in Corel then exporting he won’t have to worry about the steps that the eps uses when printing it will print the picture as is in corel & then use the EPS cut line to contour. Perhaps Alan can load the file so that it can be saved as we think and then sent back to him

    Hi Alan

We used to have similar problems but over came them by converting the graduated fill part to a bitmap and saving the corel file as a PDF – PDFs tend to print with the same intensity as a raster file and not dull down like EPS ones have a tendency to do. Make sure you have been into the advanced options when saving a PDF and enabled the cutting option and set as a preference.

Also, having the printhead set on the lower position can help too.
