right guys im looking for some help here. i purchased vmp a few days ago and have yet to get it working. im not the best with computers but have a general idea as to whats going on. my problem at the min is i have everything installed and when i performed the test circul cuts in the plotter set up wizard it works. but when i open VMP and try to send it to cut it does noting. so im guessing that this means the vmp program is not communicating with the plotter? i have the plotter connected up with a usb serial converter if that makes any difference. plotter is redsail. running windows 7. any help at all guys cause its really doing my head in at this stage.

Does this version use a dongle ?
Have you loaded the driver for the cutter, is it visible and selected?
Does the device show up on the hardware manager ?
Have you checked the cables and selected the correct USB port ?

yes the version uses a dongle. in device manager dongle is showing up as detected.

driver for the cutter is set up.

yes the device is showing up in the hardware manager and has no problems that i can see.

i have checked the cables and they seem be be ok. im running the serial to usb into com port3.

I used to have a redsail plotter and vmp, same equipment i started out with.

I had exactly the same problem, even if i eventually got the cutter to work with vmp it would suddenly decide to stop out of the blue for no apparent reason.

I could cut fine one day and then the next day i switched everything on, it just would not communicate.

I couldn’t put up with it for more than a week and brought a graphtec cutter and flexi sign software.

I honestly found the redsail cutter to be pretty much useless and sent it back to seller, had to threaten to take him to court to get money back.

Sorry if this is not much help, but just telling you my experience, that machine gave me so much stress i would not recommend keeping it.

Power down both cutter and PC, switch on cutter, then PC open VMP
open file, and send to cutfile, if it still refuses to play ball. download another driver it may be corrupt, or try another driver within VMP

theres 2 versions of vmp the old 2.50 which didnt have usb support and the new version which apparantly does, which version have you got ?
i had a mare setting up vmp to work my graphtec as i was using the usb, there is a walk thru setup that explains how to set up a Generic printer to use the usb port.
This is from the vmp manual:

Very few plotters communicate through other means
such as a USB or Infrared Port. For these plotters you
will need to set a “Generic Text Only Printer”
