    Hi

Firstly, if this is the wrong place to post this, I’m sorry and please move it.

I did a Vauxhall Vivaro van a couple of week back
It had a large image on the sides and back panel, which I didn’t cut around the contour on (customer request).

I’ve got another one to do next week, and wanted to know the best way to make sure I get a good cut around it (same customer, new request).

Any ideas or comments are more than welcome.

    Thanks

    Joseph

    Hi
apply your graphic & then run either fine line masking tape or a 5mm vinyl stripe around the shape you want to contour, then use this as a guide for you blade, remember not to cut to deep.

    Joseph,
sorry mate, getting late, not sure what you need to do,
di you need to cut the print so it fits in the panel?

    I use two methods.

Kevin’s – thin ‘coachline’ of vinyl & run the scalpel along it’s edge as a guide.

or freehand, ‘fast’ with fluid movements.

Both require brand new scalpel blades and absolute KNOWLEDGE & FAITH that you are only cutting through 80-90% of the way so you never actually cut through to the paint.

Pre-sizing a panel is possible before manufacture but getting it perfect can be a pain. Alternative is if you can manually knife the areas needing shaped on the bench after producing a template to cut to.

may be long winded but you only do it once. per type of van

take the panel out of the drawing and measure and adjust to best guess.
plot with a pen to paper cut it out and try it.
you will see the adjustments to make alter drawing and re-plot should now be correct.
use that outline as the print and cut boundary.

been cutting on the vehicle for years and still hate doing it, so got used to doing this.

ought to sell a disk of cutable panels, 😉 😉

I make a template, you only need to do it once, then you can re-use it.

use some backing paper or even a piece of vinyl, tack it over the panel with masking tape, press it into the recess using your fingers and as you do, mark the low point with a pencil/stabilo

remove and using a sharp scissors cut out the shape, use this to transfer to your print, and cut out the same way.

There are other methods, but I find this way the best,

    Peter
