I have this morning received two emails from the address

    info at
    signs
    .co
.uk (i’m not advertising i’m giving a warning!)

Both of which had different viruses attached.

    The domain
    signs
    .co
    .uk belongs to signmaster systems.

So be extra careful when opening these emails

I keep getting an email every now and again that has the “w32.bugbear.b@mm” virus attached to it. Always has the subject line “sign_painters’_62233.eps.scr” luckily Norton picked it up and quarantined it before it could do any harm. To be honest I probably would have tried to read it because it had something to with signs

    hi guys
yes i just had a virus too. it came in via an email attachment looking like a very convincing microsoft security alert. which like a twot i opened ๐Ÿ˜ณ . damage done big time. but a friend put me on to a really neat site that has free virus and worm removal ‘tools’ which you can just download. saves a shed load of trouble cos i thought i was gonna have to reformat. if anyone wants details they can just email me, cos if i put the name up it might be construed as advertising!

Just because you get a virus-infected mail from a company you recognise doesn’t mean they sent it to you, worms and viruses are very clever in searching your system for certain words or symbols like @ and then building their own addresses or headings with what they find, at one time about a month ago I was getting between 50-100 infected mails a day all with sign related businesses many from the UK, many I had never heard of, but just deleted them or let Norton auto-quarantine or auto-delete in the end as there were so many.

Virus protection is a must in our business where we are exchanging files all the time with customers and each other.

The mail address with uksignboards in it may also be quite innocent. I have a mail dump in other words I can have any namesigncraft.se so if I login on certรกin sites or register myself or a product I sometimes make for instance Nikon Coolpix signcraft.se I then see if my address is sold on or given to other parties to bombard me with spam, or its easier to sort mail like that too.

I know he had @btinternet but you never know.

    Hi Neil

It may well be not you that sent the bugged e-mail. As Henry said nasty so and so’s with mis-placed IT skills can “create” an e-mail from your address.

A few weeks back I got some nasty e-mails from people who were peed off with spam e-mails amanating (they said) from the e-mail addresses on my website – but the e-mails were not sent by me.

The culprit “collects” e-mail addresses from newsroup postings, websites, bulletin boards and so on. My solution?

Norton Internet security now comes with some spam software now “AntiSpam”.
I believe it also comes as a stand alone product.

I’ve just ordered my upgrade to 2004 with all this junk & viruses that seam to be on the increase…well in my mail box atleast ๐Ÿ˜†

    Gray,

I read in a magazine article once that the best thing to do with spam is just delete it. The article said that by returning mail they knew there was someone receiving it and some “companies” (I use the term loosely) catch onto the fact that you regularly check your mail and simply send more.

Suppose theres two schools of thought on this one!
