I have just run Sophos, and no virus’ found! I have had a few from some of the members here such as re: test and re: excel document including one from uksignboards@hotmail.com
Looks like this Netsky virus which uses E-Mail addresses is spreading fast. Would recommend all members to run their Anti-Virus before the whole board gets infected, and we wouldnt want that would we??
What would i do then at 4am??

That virus was running rampant around here last month.
It goes thru your address book and pirates the names,
then sends out more of the same.
It makes it seem as if your friends are trying to stab you in the back!
Look on the Net for free downloadable anti-virus programs.
Or update your existing program.

i know the basics of how viruses work,
regarding a virus being possibly sent via our hotmail account.i know it certainly has not come from any system connected to this site. i go to great lengths to insure that the site & its members are not harmed or bothered by viruses or spam in any shape or form.
so how do i know it wasnt a warm in my hotmail account?
well, thats the reason i have a hotmail account. to recieve day to day mail from the site. you would not beleive the amount of mail i get daily. anyway.. what i mean is this. the sites hotmail account “does not” have an address book. so a worm cannot latch onto anything because the account is “empty”. no mail, no address book etc. i read what comes in and bin accordingly.
i don not read any mail that has an attachment that i dont expect in advance.my personal email account is covered by norton antivirus, anti spam, & firewall. it is set to check for updates every 3 days.
it also does “not” have the uksigngroup@hotmail.com address within it.sooo… if anyone has received an e-mail virus/worm it was “NOT” sent via any of my/the sites email accounts.
registered users on this site have their profiles hidden and nobody can veiw them. so all personal details cannot be accessed by suppliers for spamming purposes or anyone for illegal purposes.when the site first started out, the site and its visitors were one by one targeted with bulk spam and viruses. after setting up bogus accounts we found this to not only be true but by jealous rivals.
since then i may go over the top with security but i will not fall foul to such people again.
some people use their personal details in their signatures, this being the case i cannot do much about them falling victim to such activities
but as long as they & everyone are fully aware it does not have anything to do with me or this website then they are entitled to do so.if i ever found such an infection on my system i will instantly bulk email from the sites own email facsilities warning everyone.
the sites email fascilities does not include attachements and is sent from a secure server.just thought i would point this out, because i know how easy it is to point the finger at the wrong person, but i can confidently assure you the site has no involvement what so ever.

A warm in your Hotmail account? Am I reading this correctly or have I forgotten how to read english again? 😉 😉
Only ribbing you mate 😀 There are quite a few viruses about atm 😕 Too many brainy boffins with an axe to grind and time on thier hands, imagine the useful software they could develop if they put thier minds to it, like an interactive grammer check in PHP code 😆 😆 😆 😆 😉 (sorry, couldn’t resist, its been a slow day 😉 )

Best thing to do is look out for the virus details, most of the time the file attached is around 40k, and i have had literally 100’s delivered to my mailbox in the last few months, many from peeps i know who haven’t sent it, so i just bin them. Not much to worry about if you follow Rob’s advice and bin unexpected attachments. If the sender is genuine, they will email you later to ask if you got it!
Cheers
