  • Vinyl shelf life of Ritrama Pantone vinyl, advice please?

    Hi Y’all…. happy new year
I did 50 small vinyl logos on some internal metal canisters (think metal sweet jars) for a retail company, back in 2007. In a revamp, they are buying new canisters. I can’t find a new match the vinyl any longer ( Ritrama premium pantone) but I do have the roll of vinyl, and plenty of it. 13 years??? would it still be good?? Unless anyone knows where to get Ritrama?

if it still sticks the go for it, do a test and see!

I used some real old ritrama to cover a bench, came off very easily when I removed it, another old roll stuck like the proverbial!

I did wonder if it’s that simple…. I’ve stuck a bit on a similar surface so I’ll have a look in a couple of days….

    13 Years on your shelf?
Shelf life for vinyl is normally 2 years max for Suppliers.
Lots can happen to the vinyl in that time, it goes brittle, shrinks on the roll, separates from the lining paper when rolled out etc etc.

To be honest, if these are just small metal jars then I would use it and make sure you heat the vinyl once it’s on and rub it firm. As you say, you have plenty of it in stock, so even if the worst-case came about and you had to change it, you can!

Rob, one must upsell here, "pre-shrunk" is the correct term for old vinyl where the liner edges now protrude 3mm either side!!!

Very true Hugh, pre-shrunk and maybe stonewashed for the scuffed surface damaged stuff. :smiles:
