  • Vinyl Problem on Car Window

Posted by Russell Spencer on 27 June 2013 at 09:51

this will be the third time we have done this back window on a car. We have cleaned the glass with allsorts, isoprop, meths, going to try thinners this time.
The graphics seem to stick mostly but in places it just doesnt stick at all and comes away as per picks.
Its not a problem with the chrome as it is on the rest of the car and sticks fine to the paintwork. Its just the glass were having a problem with.
Its quite a new car and I am wondering if the glass is some sort of ‘stay clean’ type (although you wouldn’t think so) and requires one of the new ‘Nano Cleaners’

    Anyone else had similar problems

    cheers

If they have used Rain-X or similar stuff on them then it can cause problems.

Only a week ago I have seen a product that ‘breaks’ the glass sealing from new cars.
I’ll have a look if I can retrieve the product link (it will be in Dutch)

We experienced this on a rear window of a vehicle a few years ago when applying chrome direct to the window. We now cut the lettering in black and apply the chrome on top 😉

have a look at this product
    http://www.signgeer.com/product/nano-ex … mover–203

Nano technology is used on glass to prevent build up of dirt, some advertise as "self cleaning windows" the is the remover.
I have never used this product before but for the sake of a tenner it might be worth trying and getting some feedback

    thanks guys

Thought about laminating onto another vinyl, but the normal vinyl was coming off as well.

If it happens again, might have to buy some ‘nano cleaner’

I’d say Rain-X is the culprit.
I had a problem fitting shop windows about a month ago. I assumed it was because the shop was across the street from a fast food place (airborne grease)
But the shop owner said that the windows were installed just the month before. I think they had some sort of a protective coating.
Cleaned with 91% isopropyl (sp) alcohol and that seemed to do the trick.
    Love….Jill
