  • Vinyl Printing… Help!!!!

Posted by Jim Graham on 21 May 2014 at 17:57

    Hi…

Today I ran out of vinyl. We normally use 3M or Avery for our Wrap work. We needed some wrap so we can gas off asap so used a local supplier. We’ve "had" to buy Ritrama. Past experiences with this vinyl with a customer supplied decal set haven’t been good.. But hey things can get better I thought..

We are using a Roland Soljet pro 3 printer.

3M we use a oracal Profile and for Avery we actually use metamark MD5 profile.

I have tried everything with this media!! Spent the last 4 hours of my life and used 3 metres of media and still it wont print right!!

    Have tried..

    Every profile going… On versaworks
    Heat Settings
    Head Speed
    Knocking down Amount of colour.

Printer has just had 3 new heads so is perfect!

    Metamark print perfect!
Ritrama – Banding – To much Colour being put down looking at it.. Still

Anyone have a Roland that prints on Ritrama have any advice? Have a roll of the stuff 🙁

Ripping my hair out now… HELP!!

    Cheers Jim

    Banding could be calibration?

Set it on the printer in versaworks -> Printer Settings -> Feed Calibration
I think it defaults to ‘use media settings’ change to ‘use printer settings’

Too much ink, as slow as it will be you could try high quality, omni directional, full scan. This will really slow the print down, but gives the ink time to ‘dry’ before the next pass, high quality is higher resolution and uses smaller ink droplets. Thanks David for the reply.. trying your method as we speak…

Never had so much of a nightmare with a media!

Test print done.. Its actually a lot better! But.. still not perfect my any means.. You can still see every head stroke and looks like its overlapping the stroke? Media also is still looking very "grainy"

Just had to phone customer to put back the job.. Not happy 🙁

Anyone had any success with ritrama printable media (RI-JET50-C) and a Roland????????

Was going to call it something else then but I will bite my lip.. Its been a long day………..!!!

Never used their digital vinyl, I’m a metamark man myself.

    Hope you get it sorted.

I mainly use Metamark myself. No issues at all.. Lovely finish!

As for Ritrama… Thats the very last time I will ever use the stuff! There profile to match the media was crap, MD5 profile was better.. Feel totally conned.

Wish id waited now, tying to meet deadlines has cost me money.

Buy ##ap buy twice. May be people out there love it? !!

Anyone else had issues with the stuff?

Use it all the time with no issues, don’t use md5 try the default vinyl setting

    Graham

Thanks for your reply! I have tried all generic vinyl profiles on versaworks!

    Also using "sign&display" setting

Your reply has left me feeling confused! It does work then.

Im printing a large amount of blue. Rather than a picture….

Have I got a bad roll?

You could try doing 2 passes.

I’ve done that in the past to get a really vibrant/bright red, rather than a pinky red.

However, if you’ve already issues with too much ink going down and it not drying…. you don’t want to be adding more ink! :lol1:

    Jim
go to Roland.net via versaworks and download 3rd party media profile for Ritrama 50 cast

    Kev

    http://dg4.roland.co.jp/en/3rdmedia/max … index.html

May not work from the link due to having to agree to T&Cs

I tried printing on ritrama polymeric with a brand new sp540i and couldn’t get it to look right. Prints all day on anything else.

Thanks for replys.. After Grahams comment I thought it must work. Calm down and try again!

Id already downloaded the Ritrama matching profile first off the Roland site. Tried this again but its shocking!! Generic vinyl 1 and 2 is just as bad.. Head speed set to 500 (normally 1000).

A further 2 hours of tests last night. I officially give up with the stuff. I’ve had the printer 5 years (been in the business for 15) ,like to think I know it well but this Ritrama digital Cast vinyl has beaten me. Print is crap!

I am actually wrapping a fleet of wagons some 8 hrs away in Aberdeen. Bought the stuff as i mucked up the laminating "1" grill print!!! 🙁

Turning a negative buy & loss into a positive… I could go up this weekend for this stuff to fail in the future. Back to 3M for me. The last 5 wagons we wrapped haven’t moved.

As for Ritrama:- Can any Ritrama guys give me any info on what im doing wrong???
