• Vinyl Printers?

Posted by andycatax on 13 November 2007 at 10:06

I am looking at buying a vinyl printer but am totally lost in what to buy i am hoping for some advise it just needs to print and not cut as well and needs to print on vinyl for outside use so i think i need UV type?. But as you’ll understand we are a small business and want to keep the costs down would be happy with a second hand one a longs it does the job, is there a company that deals in second hand ones?. We are only looking for a machine that prints 800 – 1000mm wide.

Any advise on brands and models?

    Thank you

lots of info on the boards about printers, cadet roland valuejet
You dont need a uv to start with, I would go for an ex demo model rather than second hand if you can find one for a fair reduction in price.
It will have some guarantees with it.

DONT GO NEARBY THESE MACHINES (THEY ARE UV)

EPSON 10000 CF (service error problem, would cost 2K to repair)
HP 5500 PS ( Disk wont start, would cost £1250 to repair)

Anything to do with DYE INK – dont go nearby, buy PIGMENT or UV.

I have been looking at this printer http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/sm … 48697.html will this do the job of printing on vinyl for outdoor use? the printer is mainly for solid colours and consistency of colour.

    Don’t agree.
We’ve got a HP 5500 PS Dye based and it’s great for what we use it for – posters, roller banners and pop-ups mainly.
Wouldn’t do anything for long term outdoor use on it though – we’ve got solvent for that

very limited special vinyl required basic rule if you want to do outside work then discount any water based machine.

there are exceptions but not many

Just thinking about all the different options i have as the job/ company i need this vinyl is basicly solid colours with a gradient would it be possible to print vinyl silk screen? I have got to buy a machine next year for a massive job anyway and if its an option to print it in this way then it saves on buying machines that arent going to be used. If it can be screen printed what inks and films are best? (all for outside use).

Thanks for everyone’s replys they are so helpful
