    Hi All,
been asked to write a helicopter R44 CLIPPER 2, is there a specific vinyl grade recommended? Never done a heli before? Would a good cast suffice? It is just cut vinyl, websites etc? I am having a good google now, but thought i would ask here too?

    Thanks and all the best

We used 3M IJ40 on 8 Ryan Air planes due to there budget requirements about 2 years ago I did tell then it’s not the material I would reccomend but it’s still on all the planes and no issues at all.

Hope that helps you a bit I would of reccomended using a cast by the way.

I am surprised you can use IJ40. 😮
It gets to minus sixty centigrade with air rushing past at 500mph, and it gets a lot of UV.
Pretty extreme requirements for a vinyl.
Whenever I have boarded a plane I take a close look at the vinyl. It seems to have tiny holes every few mm, and I have always assumed that is to equalise the pressure so it doesnt blow out if there is any air underneath.
Of course a helicopter doesnt go nearly as high or as fast, but I would at least use a top quality cast vinyl.

The perforated vinyl is a 3M product as far as i am aware Simon.
I would agree to only use a high end cast material for this type of application. like everything, there will be times you will get away with a lower grade media but I wouldn’t risk it. if the customer has a helicopter or aeroplane they will expect to pay a premium for anything connected.
