What plotter is it and what’s the problem, not trying to do an engineer out of any work but it might be something someone on the forum can help with.

    Hi Martin,

had posted into the summa forum so thats why i hadn’t named the make. as i thought that’s where it should be being a summa plotter s160 and looking for a engineer that works on this make but hey just getting used to this sites rules but have read them now twice.

its running off, even just at the loading media stage over a 1metre maybe 1-2mm

read all the topics on this sites, have cleaned the grit roller and pinch roller.

    checked it is level

unrolled a couple of metres and loaded same, also on a roll sitting on the rollers same, on a roll on the flanges/wheels inserted into the tube same.

£70 for a pair of rollers from summa which I will get if that is the problem, but swapped the rollers on the inside two rollers with the oustside main rollers and still get the problem. So wondering if new rollers will fix it and at £70 for a pair wouldn’t want to put them on and not solve it.

Its just over the three years unfortunately but from what i read should not be tracking badly at its age.

I think its a varying of the grip and wondered if the springs needed changing in the clamps.

    Any thoughts welcome.

    Cheers

I had this problem with my Roland, a pair of new rollers sorted out the problem. Have they softened or are they easily moveable?

Is this plotter new to you Johnny and if so has it always done this since you got it. Not quite sure how the Summa is loaded but with my graphtec it can take a bit of practice to get it right. Also find if I try and place the pinch rollers to close to the edge of the vinyl it is more likely to track off and also have to make sure the rollers are completely over the grit rollers.

New to me but nearly 4 years old Martin.

Update to some helpful information loaded media same run off as usual.

So upon advice that if the media returns to original position its a loading issue so not running off. Tried and tried to load same problem but always back to same start point.

Next bit of advice was to cut a big box if running off will over/under cut at start point and end point join.

So 5m box with 10mm border, cut no problem set square on corners of box perfect and 10mm at the 4 corners also. Did not cut skew which would be the case if running off but not if media is just loaded incorrectly or vinyl roll has not been slit square to the edges.

So as far as i can tell don’t have a problem as I don’t think I will be going over 3m much let alone 5m.

Hope this can help someone with similar problem or not problem.

Maybe the up and down speed are set too high as in feeding the vinyl back and forth, other tracking problems are…….vinyl not uniformed wound on its core, pinch rollers not in correct position, pinch roller/s on one side are worn, grit roller bearings are worn on one side.

A Summa should track at least 10mtrs back and forth without issue.
