Vinyl Colour Matching from pantone?
Posted by Alison Falzon on 19 March 2007 at 10:49HELP!!
Can anyone pleeeease tell me the closest vinyl colour to Pantone 646c (blue), pref in Oracle 751.
Also (just to make things awkward), I need an approx likeness to a 50% shade of 646c – (light blue).
I will be forever grateful to anyone who can help me out!
Many thanks!
Ali

in 751 the only colour similar is 555 glacier blue – but it’s not a perfect match 😕

Thanks Marcella.
How close is it to that Pantone colour? I was expecting it to be darker. – Shows how much monitor colours vary doesn’t it!
Is there any better matches in another vinyl grade?
Sorry to be a pain, but I’ve asked Europoint for this info a couple of times, and no-one’s got back to me yet, and the customer’s hassling me!
Thanks again,
Ali

Hi Alison, your best bet is to phone some of the suppliers and ask them to send you vinyl swatches. Because you can’t really duplicate a vinyl colour on the computer with any real accuracy without spending a lot of money I always used to show the customer what vinyl colours I would be using from a swatch just so there were no complaints about it looking different on the screen

555 is not a bad match – if the customers not too fussy it would probably do. Give them a sample and let them decide for themselves.
Failing that you could get someone to print and cut that specific colour on a printer for you. I’ve done this myself in the past when I’ve had problems colour matching.

i just had a look… that pantone colour is very light blue.. bit like sky on a good day. I just looked thru Avery range, nothing at all. We would print vinyl on this one and then cut it.

Thanks everyone..
Yes because of the 50% pantone on part of the logo (which doesn’t seem to look anything remotely like a vinyl colour from anywhere), it looks like what I’ll have to do is get the logo’s printed anyway.
The customer is quite amicable, and said that if I get them printed, he’ll then match the paint to the vinyl. (part of the car has to be sprayed the same colour).
I have a feeling this is going to be one of those nightmarish jobs…..the colour matching bit is just the beginning……
It’s for a racecar, and they want the logo on the front, going half across the "bonnet" bit, then wrapping over onto the side a little (if you know what I mean), which is okay in priniciple, but it’s a funny, curved shape, so I’m somehow going to have to distort the logo quite a bit, just to make it look okay when it’s on there! So any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
