Vinyl Cardboard Tube Cores, innovative solutions instead of binning them?
Posted by Robert Lambie on 25 March 2021 at 02:33I thought I would post these photos as I think some are really good.
I first came across ideas like this about 8-10 years ago and actually gave me my own idea for use, which I will post a picture of later today. Nothing as creative as these, but still serves a purpose till this day and I wouldn’t be without them now.Anyway, clever, naff, cool, or why even bother? ๐
Does anyone else use theirs or just bin them?

Used the large tubes from banner deliveries to make a vinyl rack under our big table. Spider factory

Thatโs the biggest desk tidy Iโve ever seen Jean, your stapler must be the size of a washing machine

@Jean-Oakley
Similar idea to what I use mine for Jean, keeping things organised. ๐

I use ours to reduce space in the bin, which would otherwise be used by van drivers.

i use mine to discipline to kids. It spreads the impact over a wider area causing much more uncomfort and pain compared to traditional methods.

Are you making a Giant Tampon Tube, David? ๐คจ
Why stop at kids, can you not do it to staff when the slightest mistake is made? ๐ค
Similar idea to mine Kev, or are you meaning slide the master roll into the large cores?
Jamie, I have read your reply a couple of times, but I can’t picture what you mean mate?
@Phill Fenton
Phill, I think you have missed a trick. You could partner with @DavidHammond and adapt his monster tampon tube and turn it into a telescope and sell it along with your Binoculars? obviously David will want royalties but I guess that’s something for you both to discuss further.

What I did with our tubes isn’t anything as creative as I have posted, but it works excellent for what we needed. I used the spaces on the underside of our Rollsroller and fitted in the card core tubes as shown. We then use the card cores to house all our trimmed off-cuts of vinyl.
Most will know that these off-cuts pile-up, look messy, and flatten to the point it will not go back through your vinyl cutter. sliding them into the card cores keeps them in perfect condition for when you next need a small bit of vinyl to cut a graphic from.
I can also see at a glance if they are being used or just becoming filled with off-cuts. so I can say to whoever is using the cutters to start using them up rather than being lazy and using the master rolls of vinyl all the time.

Jean, that’s a great idea! I might make one of those and wrap some coloured vinyl around each tube. ๐๐
Rob, another great idea. I just need to work out where I will put this and how to assemble the tubes as I don’t have a space like that. ๐ค๐

I send work out in them. Our packaging supplier sells end caps.
The boxes that laminates come in sit open at the top, next to the steeltrak, and the cutting bench, ready to take small off cuts, to go down to the dumpster. There are bins all around the work shop, but strips of dibond, forex and Kapa destroy bin bags.

@richard-wills
you just reminded me of other uses we use them for Richard.
* We roll banners around them when giving to customers.
*We also roll vinyl graphics around the tubes, then bubble wrap around the graphic and tube, then put that inside the vinyl boxes the vinyl arrived in. the boxes are cut down to suit the graphics of course but with parcel tape around them they work a treat.
We do not post a lot of graphics kits out, but this way always helps when your caught on the hop for packaging materials.
