It is Dave but for the time it will save. I’ve just bought the roller 1300mm £300
Now I can start drawing the table up. Say 2" box frame with 2" x 1" internal frame to support the frame £220 materials. Legs 4 on each side with screw feet for levelling. Glass 10mm toughened £600 sandblasted to disperse the lights. Alu sheet to fit under the table on hinges with 2 x 1200mm strip light for each table section £200. On hinges so it can be hinged on one side to change the bulbs. C section rails on each side for the bearings to sit for the carriage £60. That’s the table. Maybe a few little bits I’ve missedThen the arm
Bearings x12. 6 each side. They sit in 2 rows. 3 top and 3 bottom in the c section. This allows the weight bearing down on the bottom 3 and the roller when pressured down to bear on the upper bearings. Some 3" x 2" box for the carrage that the bearings are fixed. Then 2 peices for the sides and 2 for the cross beams. £90. Then the roller. Bearing on each side that fits in a slot to allow for it to go up and down with no movement forward or backwards. Twin cylinder air rams £90 fixed to the underneath of the arm and the bearing plate. Some switches, pipe, joints £150. Oh and a compressor. But everyone’s to one.
What have I missed

The table is the dearest bit. The arm, rails, roller and pneumatics about £700 give or take all the little bits

I was thinking there can’t be much to them. Mite be wrong though.
I was looking into buying a rolls roller.PHIL
Hurry up building that MK1 CNC machine and get cracking with the home made rolls roller I’ll give you a £200 budget 😀 😀 😀
By the way iam exited to see the end product working, mite have a go myself at making on. Would love to make my own 3D letters.

scott if you have Signapp you will always see one step ahead of phills blogs in there before they are posted on UKSB.
I am same as you think hes done an amazing job on the CNC machine… :appl: -
Rob iam on the sign app as we speak (on tthe ipad) I see he’s on part 4 can’t wait for part 5.
Are all the videos from the signtube on the sign app? I see some but I believe not all 😕 Or is it just me
-
your correct Scot, only videos uploaded since the video module update was implemented into the app will appear. so those older wont appear in searches, unfortunately.
but any videos loaded now appear on the app instantly… i think the last one uploaded was by wrap-cut yesterday. -

I purchased a roll of that wrap cut tape yesterday, I can think of many ways that it will come in handy. -
We could start a ‘Challenge Phill’ thread? 😀
Could I have my own Hadron Collider Phill please? 😀

oh £300 for 1300 roller… where from?
sounds similar to what I was planning

Dave. Bought the 2 rollers for £300. I think I’ll sell one if any ones interested. £150. I’m going to get some drawings up together. Once finished I’ll upload them for you all to see. I’m looking forward to starting it. It should save a lot of time once finished

I am in a long drawn out build of one of these tables as well but i am going down a different route in designing our own roller & guide system rather than copying the Rolls Roller. The problem is time because all fabrication is being done in house. So the 4 x 7.5mts of box section is sitting under the bench with the prototype wheel system and when i get some free time i will get back to it. Table size will be 1600mm x 4000mm with slide out extension this gives enough room to join and align two 3mtr sheets. Stikk looking for roller & air rams but may even try a sprung mechanical system and upgrade tp air ay a later date.

Someone in the states I started a thread on another forum has.
Extrusions and roller and pneumatic cylinders from:
-
what patents lol… i tried looking for them hehe
Anyway… that’s interesting construction, that’s what I was thinking but now learning that u need a perfectly flat floor
-
Dave just put threaded feet on the table. Then when you have it in the perfect working position you can level it perfectly by winding them up and down. Job done. It’s quite easy construction. Once I get a min I’ll upload my drawing of what I want. I’ve designed my own roller system that’s much easier than any existing models

so why is it then that 2 companies have made these tables at such a high cost to their customers. If so easy and cheap to build why did they not make them as such and sell thousands rather than hundreds of them?
I’m sure you could make your own and save some money but I’d rather be making signs then tables and am sure they would last much much longer than any home made version? Yes as a hobby project or the like but for a full time production machine made to improve your business and productivity I just don’t see why a "sign maker" would do this?
Not trying to be controversial but not sure why so many people are jumping on the band wagon over this?
-
another interesting thing about the photo is the extra wooden legs, so proves that section will bow.
It’s fascinating to talk about it, we looked at buying them but at present dont need to as we got the flatbed printer, but we are doing a lot more work on the latex as the quality is amazing, so it makes me wonder what is next.

the work involved is no more than what i do for some of the signage i make & install it just’s depends on what signage work you are involved in. I construct steel frames weld on site etc when the need is there. I’m fortunate to have a well equipped workshop with pillar drill, metal cut off saws, wall saw and cnc router. I’m hopefully soon to add a steel & ali welder to the set up as well. I have designed an alternative wheel system for my table which in my opinion will be more rugged the bearings being rated at 150 kilos each. I in no way consider making this table an hobby it is a means to and ends which is to enable myself to mount vinyls to boards quick & easy and the return on my investment will only take a couple of jobs. Pkus it will never be costing me money sitting there whilst i am not using itKev

Hi all
We have a rapid applicator and whether you buy one, or a rolls roller, or make your own then they are highly recommended. If building your own though, or rather having used one extensively the critical thing is that the table is absolutely flat, the roller has no bow or give and is parallel to the table top to a very tight tolerance, otherwise don’t expect good results – remember all the issues widely discussed about the easy taper and the roller bowing? This is why the RA and RR are both heavyweight tanks of steel so everything stays flat and true and they work extremely well.
Cheers

i was thinking about converting our old CNC.. it has a rack and pinion track under it and gantry weight is on a rail. (or round bar in our case)

Hi all
I have the 10mm toughened glass and roller. the metal should be here beginning of next week for the table. once the table is build ill upload some pictures.
Cheers

Interesting Thread Guys:
I have been looking into this myself and we have opted for a frame from an old roller shutter door, We have one lying around as we used to fit them. steel rails either side and used to hold heavy doors, so roller won’t be an issue.
I am using steel tables, so don’t think it will bow, but the 10mm toughened glass might be an idea!!! Love the drawings, and images plenty to think about, interested in your finished images Adam….
Now I need to find the time to build the thing!
I know the finished articles are brilliant, I just can’t see where the money is going, except that not many people are doing it, therefore keep the prices high until they have serious competition. If only I had a few million lying about….
-
Cheers Andy I’ll keep you all uptodate as I go.
Does any one know if the Rollsroller or bobbis or rapid aplicator frames are steel or aluminium. I know there’s a fair few of you out there that have one. Cheers
-
Bought all the steel for the table today. £160 total. Glass is here £800.
Now to start cutting and welding
-
An idea to get the work surface level. Is to pour an epoxy compound that’s self levelling onto the table. Least then you know the work surface is flat. Place the glass on top of it. Then just need to have an adjustment for the gantry to make it parallel to the top.
-
Here’s the table I’m building. I’m a few weeks from completion, working a few evenings and weekends.
this is the roller that travels under the whole table. I’m building mine to be like http://www.rollover.no it has no beam on the top side and air switches to raise lower the roller.

Hi
That’s smart stuff. U have it all covered. The only question I have do you have any flex in your sliding side rails. Did u make the frame out of Ali or steel.
Cheers

a horn? is that so the management can hear that the worker is working?
-
Very interesting topic. The fact that your rollertable has no beam on the top is very good for easy applying!

Bloody hell guys… What a pollava? I just made a big bench, levelled it with a glass surface, took the roller out of a dead 1600 cold laminator, weighted it, 2 guide wheels on each end sat in 2 channels routed just outside the glass and a handle on each side… Roller permanently on table and world great…. Except for when not in use I push it to the end of the bench where the channels raise up by 5mm to stop the roller going flat over night…. Jobs done…. Lol
