Vertical banding on SP540i
Good morning everyone.. just a quickie for any printers out there.. iv recently bought a new Roland SP540i… everything seems fine with it, apart from now and again i seem to get a light band running through my print.. at first i thought it could be to do with the heating.. but its started going vertical on some prints.. mainly dark colours.. ive tried slacking off the roll as it goes through, which helps somtimes, but was wondering if anyone else has come across this problem?? its under warranty.. so justw wondering if its worth calling them out 🙂

yes call them as it shouldn’t do it. Have you done your calibrations for each media as well as feed calibration?

Vertical banding on certain colours is common especially if it’s a fade / gradient.
Due to either the number of ‘steps’ generated when converting between say a Corel fill and an EPS but also because the intermediate shades generated cannot be legitimately created by the printer so it screws them up.
Horizontal bands on the other hand (direction of print head)…’tis the nature of the beast, but going into the alignment settings can improve them…as well as keeping a slack roll.

Ben, I would call them out having personally seen the prints, as it is under warranty then use it!

Vertical banding : Encoder scale is dirty or need to be replaced.
When there is scratch or dirt on the Encoder scale, the printing image could be damaged its quality & the vertical banding’s could be appeared at the position where there is scratch or dirt. use scratch for cleaning or replace it. Never use chemicals, such as alcohol, for cleaning.
