Versaworks: Print then Print/Cut
Posted by Jason Xuereb on 19 July 2008 at 10:12Is this possible in versaworks?
Print with registration marks then use the registration marks to print and cut again in the same spot?
If not can another RIP achieve this functionality?
This is for double sided stickers would save me some time.

i have done that in colour rip but not a exact science need to leave a bit extra space.
write down in order what you want to achieve and go through it logically.

Hey Chris,
At the moment if I try and print/cut another file it will just start printing then cutting without first finding the registration marks then setting position etc.
The way I have to do double sided stickers at the moment is print on my clear. Print on my white then manually register these by hand. Then put it back in the machine to simply cut them.

you could try printing with marks, lam with white then cut and set return to origin after cut then print again on the white?
Nick.

sounds like a plan mr minall
can you let the machine find the marks only or does vw get in the way.
as that will set a new base point ref what has been printedchris

when it goes back to origin after print lam cut with marks it should just print from there so as long as you have the 2 files ( 1 print lam cut and 1 just print ) made to the same cut lines it should print in the right place.
-
Hey Nick,
When you want the printer to go back the origin how do you tell the machine to go back there?

in my VW 2 6 .2 I can set it up in queue A/B properties mate, cut controls, can set it for cut only, print & cut and print only. I have an XC540.

So its a setting in Versaworks. Cool I will try it tomorrow when I get into work.

Hey guys,
This didn’t work.
After I printed with crop marks, then laminated it with white, cut it and return to origin its all fine.
But when I go to print again it prints the crop marks.
If I take away printing the crop marks again it goes all out of alignment.

If the graphic is the same size, starting at the same base point should be fine. If the machine isn’t very good at it stick a blade through the material to give to an exact place to align your origin. I would do it like this without reg marks, works a treat for banners.

Hey Gavin,
I do double sided banners the same way. The reason I wanted to use the reg marks is because the RIP accounts for skew etc when it uses them. I’m printing pretty small double sided stickers and if I’m not careful my alignment can get out of wack rather quickly. With banners I usually have a 10mm bleed so if it goes out its not noticeable.

Cheers Nick that’s how I do it at the moment. Thought I could speed it up a bit.
