versacamm sp540 print test not right
Posted by Dan Osterbery on 24 August 2012 at 14:51Hi All,
Friday afternoon dramas, got a few jobs to get finished for delivery tonight and we have just noticed the roland was printing strange colours. Have done a test print and the yellow head appears to be contaminated by the magenta. i have run a powerful head clean and it hasn’t helped. Is there anything i can do to get these last few meters printed? I assume its the pump? shall call the technicians on Monday am.Thanks in advance

Hi All,
just taken off the covers at the front of the pump and there is a leak at the bottom of the pump and i am losing ink. Think it is definitely a technician job.

Hi Dan. You could try seperating the pump and cap and use a syringe in place of the pump. It sounds like it’s going to need a visit but that may get you out of trouble in the meantime.
Get in touch if you’re stuck and I’ll try and talk you through it.

Hi Stafford,
Still having problems with my versacamm. The yellow part of the print test is still coming through magenta. I thought it was the pump, so I changed the pump, but yellow still printing magenta.I then poured cleaning liquid into the cap tops and disconnected the pump lines and attached a syringe to suck the cleaning solution through, to make sure the lines were clear (which they are) and ran another print test, which still came out magenta.
I have also turned the machine off and disconnected the magenta / yellow line by the pump and have attached a syringe to that and sucked and magenta ink came through?
I have also flushed the lines to the ink dump with cleaning solution to make sure they are not blocked and they are running freely?
where else should i be looking for problems?
Sorry to ask for help again but the technician cant get a flight to get to me till Tuesday next week and i have no been down since last Thursday and really need to get some jobs done!
thanks in advance!

Hi All,
just noticed that the four inks lines that feed the ink are not all different colours? (see photo 1) Surely they should be blue ,black, magenta and yellow? direct from the cartrigdes? Then they run into the dampers – which are also blue black, magenta and magenta? (see photo 2 & 3) Any help appreciated?cheers

Hi All,
i have unscrewed the yellow damper and syringed all the magenta ink out of it and emptied the damper. I am now drawing yellow ink again. I will try to test print and see what happens. My inexperienced guess is the yellow damper has failed and is drawing magenta into the line either back backflush or someother method. So this will need to be changed.cheers

Back up and running. Caps changed, dampers changed and pump changed.
In my inexperienced opinion, the damper had failed and allowed ink to backwash through the head and contaminate the line. Once the line cleared and yellow ink flowing into new damper, a couple of head cleans and test print back to perfect!thanks for your input those who helped.

Hi Dan, sorry for the late reply.
As I was reading your post I was thinking exactly that. The damper and line must have been SO contaminated that it had pulled magenta all the way to the cartridge!! Are you running sealed cartridges or a refillable system? I’ve seen Mimaki 440ml sealed carts full of the wrong colour due to this.
Glad you got a solution, well spotted. You know you can always call me if you’re stuck as I sometimes don’t get to check on here for a few days.
