Versacamm SP300 Dampers help needed please?
Posted by Stephen Ingham on 24 July 2012 at 10:24Hi all, i have just changed the dampers on my SP300 and am struggling to draw the ink in to fill them up.
What i have tried, be it right or wrong, is the pump up facility, my problem now though is that i keep getting a message of "CANCELLED FOR PROTECTING MOTOR" and i now cant go any further with it.
I am guessing that it has shown that message to safe guard the pump motor from burning out, but how do i get past this and get the dampers filled again?
Any help or advice is much appreciated
Cheers

I changed dampers on my Cadet recently (same machine different branding) and all I had to do to get the ink flowing through the dampers was to switch the machine back on again. A few turns of the pump is enough.
The only thing I can think of is have you re-assembled everything properly? Could you have done something to stop the carriage from moving which would put strain on the driver motor causing the error message?

Hi Phil, thanks for the reply.
I switched it off and left it for half an hour or so and the error message hasn’t come back again.
However, the dampers don’t seem to be filling….any suggestions?:police: Mod-Edit

if your dampers have little fastening nuts on them, slacken the nut. you can over tighten them and it prevents ink getting into fill the damper.
be carefull working on your dampers because its very easy to split/crack the manifold mount it sits on and will open up more problems for you. -
Check the pump is working and there are no blockages in the tubing from the sponges to the waste container. A few drops of cleanin fluid dropped onto the sponges should quickly suck away with a few manual turns of the pump. If it doesn’t then either the pump is faulty or the tubes are blocked

I know on the rs you can manually pull ink through by putting a syringe on the hose from the cap.
+1 on robs advice. I’ve broken 2 manifolds.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.
David, i will try that in the morning

Most machines once you have changed the dampers you can pull the ink through & half fill the dampers with ink by using a syringe with a bit of tubing attached the same size as the damper outlet.
When changing dampers you should also change the "O" seal that sits inside the nut at the damper inlet. If you start to have problems with air leaks after changing dampers it is often caused by not changing these "O" seals. -
When the engineer was changing the head on my sp540 i watched him fill the dampers with a syringe so hope that backs up what some others have said.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.
I used the syringe method and it appears to have worked, however, now i seem to have black on both the black head and where cyan should be….
It never rains but pours…..
Any ideas?

ian do a test print and as the head prints the first part of the print lift the front cover. take of the end cover and look at the capping stations. are they full of ink, they should be dry, if wet the pumps are not working. replace both covers to let it finnish the test print.

Hi Chris, thanks for the reply.
The capping stations are dry, its just when i have performed a test print it is printing black on both the black and cyan head….
-
did you ever find a solution? I have changed a damper and am now struggling to get it to fill up with ink? Have tried syringe method drawing from below capping station?
cheers

Hi Dan, the engineer that came cleaned out the black and cyan pipes right back to the cartridges, because there was contamination, then replaced the dampers, cap tops and the tubing to the pump and it all seemed to work fine….
