We’ve been getting an intermittent scan motor error for a few weeks now.

Personally i think that the ribbon cable thats goes to the print head ( for some reason it, and the 2 plastic strips either side of it, are significantly crimped in several places ) is getting caught, giving some resistance to the head, and the motor error is occuring.

Firstly, can you helpful people have a look at your ribbon cables and tell me if you have these ‘crimps’ – are they normal?

Secondly, can anyone advise on an engineer, in the north west, who will come out for less than the £250 Roland want, just to come out and have a look for an hour !!

    Thanks

    Danny

Had my ribbon cable changed a couple of weeks ago, under warranty. It had a lot of ‘crimps’ in it but it shouldn’t have any. The cable was very noisy shortly before I noticed that the crimps appeared.
One of the technical staff recommend that I try flattening the folds between my fingers but to be ‘very careful’ not to touch the clear mica strip just in front of the cable – didn’t work.

This same fault has happened to me twice in the last 6 months resulting in a warranty call to Roland.

This must be a common fault as the engineer seemed very familiar with the problem.

You can gradually here the problem getting worse as the the ribbon and plastic strips gradually get more and more creased until they foul the head carriage and you get the motor error.

How wide spread is the problem?

Had our Machine Just over 2 years never had that problem only time i ever got that error reading was when the roll at the back was a bit too heavy such as when using full rolls of poster paper and heavy materials and forgot to pre-feed some out 1st
