  • Versacamm Draining Ink into waste bottle overnight

    Hi Everyone..

I ran out of cyan ink on Thursday evening in my SP300v and typically I had stock of all other cartridges than the one that ran out.. I ordered one straight away, which arrived at 9 this morning.

Checking my versacamm this morning I have found it has emptied the entire magenta cartridge into the waste ink bottle..

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this..?

I replaced cap stations a couple of weeks ago.. Could it be the dampers…?

I would really appreciate some advice..

I have the same issue and have resorted to plugging the outlet pipe on my machine when I have finished for the day to prevent this happening. I have replaced the pump and capping stations to no avail. I haven’t tried changing the dampers yet but that ‘s the only thing left to try. This started when I changed to a different inkset with bigger cartidges and I wondered if this was the cause – perhaps a lower viscocity ink allowing it to flow more easily?

    Hi Phil..

I have been using the same inks for the last 3 years, so I don’t think it is that..

I will change the dampers over the weekend and report my findings back.. Hopefully the information will be of help to you and potentially others.

If the drain bottle has ink in it and the waste tube is in the ink it can cause a vacuum and I think and drains the carts. 🙁

Had it happen to me recently to and that’s all I could put it down too. I was going to shorten the waste tube but haven’t as of yet, I just make sure the waste bottle is emptied every so often.

    Cheers

Yes I was aware if that Graeme – it’s a siphoning effect but I have already ruled that out.

Hi Andrew, I’m a new member this is my first post. Just had the same issue with my roland vs 640. I think your on the right track, for me It was a damper problem and we replaced them. Also something to look for would be a an air lock somewhere in your ink line which can also cause you problems. Cheers .Wayne from Dublin

I had the same issue 2 times here in Melbourne on the extreme hot weather. above 40 Celsius.
I got the log from 2 years old VS640i, It recorded 35C maximum temperature when the drained occurred.
I asked local Roland regarding max temperature can be held by original cartridge, they don’t know at all, a bit wierd.
Two times got drained, I had to replace 8 cartridges, cost me fortune.

In my point of view. The extreme weather will expand the pouch inside the cartridges. 8 expanded-pouches will make enough pressure to flow the ink to the waste-bottle.
The dampers, capping, are pretty much new, I didn’t replace them, and the printer still working fine.

In my situation – I finally discovered it was indeed the dampers that were at fault and replacing these stopped the mixing of ink from occurring in the capping station which was another symptom.
