I have to confess to being a tad worried about this job I have just agreed to do for a customer. The car is white and I have to make it look like the one in the pic below (except the yellow parts are white instead) by a week tomorrow 😕
I think I should probably try and use macfleet if possible but am toying with using Avery 900sc instead as I need to match the blue quite close. Either way I really don’t know how much to quote or if it will be too much for me to handle come to that!! But I thought “in for a penny…” as they say and said I’d do it anyway.
Not looking forward to the rear bumper at all, or the front wings either come to that…. oh well I guess I’ll post a pic when I’ve done my best attempt…… watch this space 😉

is this a temp thing mate?
i mean.. we did stuff for racing cars a while back. had to give about 6 sets of everything so it could be replaced. they get bashed and scratched daft…

will you be fitting it inside a nice workshop on on an oily car garage floor?

It’s not a temp thing as such – well as far as I know its for the season 😕 but yeah as you say they get a really good hammering with stones and impact damage !
The one good thing is that I have a nice clean workshop to fit in (see below) so thats an encouragement anyway 😀

It just looks a lot more tricky than that picture shows when you see all the compound curved panels in real life 😥
Anyone want to come and help on Monday ???

Which film would you suggest Rob ?

If I attempt to work this bank holiday Monday, Mrs Dewi is going to make an ornament with bits of my anatomy 🙁 Much as I like a challenge, by the look on her face when I just said “Mind if I nip over to Birmingham next Monday?”, I think I may be pushing it this time 😕 😥 😥 😥

Workshop space looks brilliant though, should make life a little easier! Blimming needs to be if you’ve got to make that car look like the one in the piccy! 😮 😮 😀

well i do think the best wrap is mactac.. well of what i have tested so far.
but like them all.. has down sides. your in the perfect environment for mactac but still… if you are worried in anyway about this i think KPMF is the one to use. this wrap you can lift and lay and if you spoil a section you simply whip it off and start again.
grafywrap, from what i have heard is a good wrap vinyl but a cast just like avery. again i have heard it can be removed easily like any normal vinyl. but cant comment as i have not tested it yet.

for ease of use it think i would try KPMF.

all other text etc i would use a good calandar or cast.

oh yeh.. and if i wasnt far from you mate. ide be down in a jiffy to lend a hand 😉

Oh sod it for a game of toy soldiers! I’ve always fancied having a bit of modern art on the mantle piece anyway 😀 😀

If you want me, I’m in Nigel, where do I go, what time and what do I need to bring? 😀

EDIT Are you serious mate ? I will pm you with the details if you want to give it a go !!

…thanks guys 😉 I’m sooo wrapped up in getting everything done that I clean forgot it was even a bank hol on Monday 😥
I’ve booked it in now so I guess I’ll just have to knuckle down and do it as quick as poss.
I will see what the colour match looks like for their blue and I think I will go for Macfleet if i can because i’ve heard its good stuff !

I’ll get the camera charged up and set it up with a time lapse….. three days should cover it 😉

have you tried macfleet wrap mate?

    is the workshop moderately warm?

make sure when applying at first to have the large panels tapped. macfleet is thin and can be pushed very far. if you have an extra set of hands (dewi) make sure you hold one side off while the other applies towards him. 😉

I’ve not used the stuff Rob but the workshop is normally reasonably warm so I guess I’m ok on that score. I’m not so keen on using it if its too thin though, thats one of the reasons I find it difficult to work with Avery900. I’ll see if I can find a sample bit here and have a play before I go ordering any !

    cheers,

I must say it’s not my workshop btw just in case anyone though my place has a little more space than it actually does 😀 But yes it is one of those workshops where if you drop some crumbs from your lunch you feel guilty !!
I don’t think they’ll have the car built up enough for me to have a go after – usually they’re running so late with the last jobs it doesnt get the wheels on ’till they need to get it in the transporter lorry 🙄 Plus I’m not over convinced that they would trust me either, but nice idea anyway !!

I’ve just found out today that quite a bit of the stuff is provided by the sponsors at the Le Mans circuit so my job just go a little easier. All I have to do is the blue and the Gilbran logos – still looks like fun though eh ? Glad to have Dewi to lend a hand or two !!

You want both my hands? 😮 How will I hold the camera 😆 😆 😆

Quite looking forward to it though, and Dex may be right you know, we should ask for a quick spin or two round the track when the jobs done 😉 😉

I don’t have to wear those overalls that you see them wearing in the pitstops do I? 😕 The overalls aren’t that bad, its the baseball caps, my head is so big I always look like a cross between Noddy and Mr Bean! 😳
