vehicle wrapping: ferrari
Posted by Nigel Fraser on May 3, 2005 at 5:44 pmWell aren’t I the lucky one ? Following on from mine, Dewi’s and Emmetts efforts with the Red>Blue 550 conversion I’ve now got to go to Silverstone on the 15th to change the colour of a Ferrari 360 to black 😀
Do you fancy another bash Dewi ??!
The curves look somewhat easier and of course there are no louvre vents in the bonnet ! Having said that there are some slightly awkward looking air intakes on the sides instead 😕
As always, I’ll try and post pics of the in progress and finished job to show what fun we had 😉

i may even pop by for a nosey 😉 :lol1: :lol1: :lol1: -
I’ll take it for a spin. 😀
BTW, that was cool to see the car you and Dewi wrapped on the race track. Good stuff.
-Marek -
Just looked at the calendar and it’s a Sunday 🙄 looks like the bill just gone up a bit. I’m going to finalise it tomorrow hopefully – they did suggest starting in the evening on the 15th and working through the night but I don’t know about that :sleep3: 😕
Nigel -
hey, after teh coolness that was the last wrap even I may have a nosey.
hehe, you should sell tickets, or at least video some of it.

….don’t suggest that, I’ll get very nervous and start putting creases and bubbles all over 😉

yeh, would be a lonnnnng night mate…
what vinyl you using this time, still avery?how far down is silverstone anyway 😕
-
quote Robert Lambie:how far down is silverstone anyway 😕
It’s just off the M40 near Banbury (about 1 hour or so south from me) but a bit of a long way from Scotland 😉 Did you get your private jet ordered yet ?
I’ll use the Avery 900sc again I think – they actually wanted metallic black but I can only find really sparkly blacks in cast film which would probably be a bit OTT for this job !
Nigel

Rob it will be an awful long pop by it’s down this end of the world ie: south 😀
Lynn

I’ll have a lash Nigel! :lol1: Blimey, a 360! Carry on like this, you’ll have a full set! 😮 😀
Who’s it being wrapped for, the Russians again? 😮
Cheers, Dewi

Nice one Lynn. 😀
-Marek -
You’re welcome to pop by if you like Lynn, especially if you bring food 😀 we tend to get so involved that meal times pass by without stopping ! I think I might have to take some serious supplies of caffine this time as I can see us working a little late on this one.
Leave Dewi’s arms out of it, I don’t want him getting fake tan all over the vinyl :lol1:Nigel

:lol1: Aww come on Lynn, when do I have time to get out in the sun! 😥 Took me all my time to renew my avatar! :lol1:

Nigel,
I see this as a nice little earner for you, but still wonder why they don’t just spray the cars? I know the owner of the 550 wanted to stay with the original colour, but after its been smashed around on the track, any new bits will still have to be sprayed. Are they nuts, or just got more money than sense?
I think you must have done a real good sales job on them!!

Dewi
you look really good in your new piccy but your fashion sense is so 5 minutes :funky: agoLynn
-
Shhhh! Don’t tell them about spray paint Peter! 😳 We’ve spent hours telling them that Ferrari’s are impossible to get spray paint for so they have to be wrapped in vinyl! :lol1:

PeterWell you would think so Peter but there are a few other factors in the system….
1) I’m not sure about the cost but I’m guessing that the price to prep and paint twice (i.e. including reverting to the original colour) might be similar or more than the cost to wrap once ?
2) If the car owners don’t want it painted I guess they have no choice !
3) The timescales involved mean that the car can stay in their workshop and be worked on by them at the same time as being wrapped as opposed to being shipped off to the paint shop for a week .
4) We have wrapped spare panels for the previous car and I think they try and keep the originals safe and in 1 piece. Unless the car gets really smashed they can probably rebuild it pretty much as it was !
5) Obviously the quality of our fitting leaves such a desirable finish that they prefer it to a spray finish :lol1:

I like that one! Classic! :lol1:

Not disagreeing at all, nigel, but then again we have a paradox. Owner wants car to stay original, then goes and races it. Knocking the crap out of engine suspension and bodywork!
Keep up the good work,
Peter

Finally got myself home 😀 11th it is then, just chant the mantra “Bring the CD, Bring the CD” :lol1:
Lynn, my fashion sense is dictated by what happens to drop out of the wardrobe when I open it 😳 I’m not what you would class as the snappiest dresser in town, and my Sunday best rapidally becomes work gear when I accidently nip into the workshop to paint an A Board on my day off 🙄 Mrs D is always pleased with my additions to perfectly good clothing 😕 😳 😛

..and yes before someone points it out we did miss the boot lid on purpose ! No tools to remove the rear wing and badge and so we left to get some sleep and someone else can do that bit !!
sure Dewi will have plenty of pics when he wakes up enough 😉

That looks sh*t hot 😮
Easy does it with a knife i bet!How many fitted it?
Cheers
Chris 😀
-
Hi Chris, there were three of us (but one was Dewi 😉 ) and yes the paint was a problem because the car owner was ther watching us at the start and was keen to tell us that it had just been painted 3 days ago 🙄 So we had to be VERY careful with the trimming etc.

Looks really good, like i said to you, rather you than me lol

quote Robert Lambie:any parts give particular bother nigel?
The part about working with Dewi. :lol1:
Just kidding Dewi, still no package though. It’s the thought that counts..right?
Nigel (and crew) the car looks great!
-Marek -
Thanks for the comments everyone 😀
quote Robert Lambie:any parts give particular bother nigel?any joy with the vinyl? 😉
Well I’d say the worst bit was the rear bumper but that’s probably a combination of being tired, cold(no heating) and it being a really awkward shape ! Both me and Emmett managed to burn holes in the vinyl while trying to get it into impossible recesses 🙄 But we patched it in the end and it looked fine really.
Having said that the rear 1/4’s were a bit of a handfull because of the sheer size (it took nearly 8’x4′ of vinyl in one piece for each) and this lead to one or two little creases/wrinkles – see image 😀We discovered that the Aston Martin team had a couple of very tasty machines parked up in the next garage and this caused Dewi to get a little carried away with his camera 😀
Glad it’s over and fading fast now after 36hours with no sleep 😉 so it’s off to bed soon for me !
Rob, I did manage to sort a deal with Cox about the vinyl not as good as hoped but better than nothing 😉
Nigel

Piccies turned out cool Nigel 😀 Nice one!
Sorry I haven’t had chance to sort the piccies I took yet, my plan of driving back up here and going straight to work didn’t exactly go to plan. I ended up falling asleep about 20 minutes after getting in through the door (about 7am). 😳 Woke up at 3pm, got to the shop and discovered a pile of mail and half the population of Manchester had called wanting signs on the day I wasn’t there! 😮 Bizarre!
Anyway, thoroughly enjoyed it again Nigel, thank you again for putting up with me and my Red Bull :lol1: Looking at the piccies, the Ferrari just looks the business, but at 4am I didn’t appreciate that, I needed food, sleep or another Red Bull! (I got the Red Bull on the way back here :D)
I’ll try and post up the piccies tomorrow morning though, got some brilliant ones 😀 Now for some proper sleep! 😀
Cheers, Dewi

Stay of the red bulls Dewi, If you cant stand the heat……
I met the guy who invented Red bull, Aussie he is, Nice chap, lovely wife,
They met when they were about 14. He sold the red bull stuff off to go and develop a system for making emeralds. Coincidently, I met him in Brescia, and he had flown his vintage ferrari in from oz to race in the mille miglia. Bust the gearbox first day. Well fed up he was.
Peter -
Nice work again you guys.
I still do not understand how a ferrari owner would be satisfied with a wrap instead of a spray job? If the car was sprayed a few days ago, why not have it done in black? I know you guys are making a living out of it, but a spray finish is far superior to vinyl, and from my experience, a paint job would not cost a lot more.
peter -
i would love to know who invented creamola foam?
i love red bull but every sip reminds me of my childhood drinking creamola foam. red bull “is” fizzy cremola foam 😀 well taste just the same ingredients obviously different…
creamola foam seams to have more chemicals in it than tar & glue remover 😉anyway, great work dewi… no wonder you need an eye opener.
-
Rob,
No cafienne in cremola just chems, that was the secret with rbs
Peter -
rbs? whats that mate… royal bank of scotland? :lol1:
caffiene is the wings then?

creamola foam………….is my fave but cannot get it anymore 😕 it used to work wonders on hangovers :lol1: :lol1:

Looks great as always guys ….. job well done 😉 Bless I bet you were all shattered!!

Creamola Foam ….. 😕 Never heard of it till now?

After the car arrived, we got to work cleaning the whole car down and Emmett the Wonder Wrapper got to work on wrapping the doors. I helped Nigel (well, I held some vinyl for a bit) to get the bonnet wrapped.
I may have nipped out for a quick look at a posh car (and a sly smoke) but things were moving along really well 😀
Cheers, Dewi

Apart from the back bumper (say no more, say no more) one of the last jobs was the roof. My claim to fame, I did the little bits at the side of the windscreen 😀 leaving Nigel and Emmett to do the main roof whilst… well, I took some more pictures.
At around 4am, the car was virtually complete. We were all knackered, but the car looked bloody evil with its new black coat.
Cheers, Dewi

One last piccy. Every time I’ve worked with Nigel and Emmett I always seem to get a picture of me and Emmett in some daft pose, usually Nigel is busy checking over the car to make sure its all spot on. This is said photo for this one, with Emmett feeling the need to collapse to the floor with exhaustion, whilst I prance about on a Red Bull high! :lol1:
Many thanks to Nigel again for giving me the chance to take part, thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it and I think the car looks fantastic! 😀
Cheers, Dewi
-
Good stuff Dewi. Thanks for the laugh in the morning (over here). The car looks awesome, once again.
-Marek -
the car looks great its a true master piece. I was just wondering do they polish the vinyl after the job is done? ( might be a stupid question but just curious)
-
We went over the car when it was completely wrapped and removed any finger prints (no proof we were ever there 😉 ) and checked for any rogue bubbles that may have appeared or not as the case may be 🙄
Did anyone get any pictures of it racing? Completely missed everything the past couple of weeks 😮
Cheers, Dewi
-
nice work fellas and thanks for showing us the pics
rich -
Thanks for posting those Dewi, just having a look at them tonight makes me feel tired all over again 😀
In answer to the polish question, yes you can polish it up really nice with any non abrasive car polish – Autoglym super resin works good.
Got another bumper and bonnet 🙄 to do on Monday for the 550 car !
Nigel
-
Another bonnet 😮 😮 😮 Um, I’m um, washing my… um, hair! 🙄 🙄
:lol1: Is it the same as the last with all the louvres? Possibly be easier the 2nd time, and on the bright side, at least it isn’t the bonnet from the DB9 we saw! 😮 Those air intakes were so deep you could loose a squeegee in them! 😕
Cheers, Dewi
