vehicle wrapping: demo
Posted by Nigel Fraser on 1 June 2004 at 20:07Well, I know you’ve been waiting with baited breath and here is the result of the days activities for me and Dewi with the help of our assistant Emmett in the pictures also. It took 3 of us 9 hours using avery 900sc film and was pretty hard to get down right but….. well you can be the judge !
Dewi has some better pics than mine but he’s probably still stuck on the motorway in a jam 😥
Must go and get the dinner on – more details later I guess

well all i can say is it looks like you guys done a cracking job! (hot)
really mean that. i think the shape of that car in particular is looks difficult from from were i am sat. 😉
thats gotta have been the worst or best vinyl experience for you?
if not for the shap, just the actual price of the car.. hope nobody was chiseling in at it with stanley knife 😆 😆great work guys and thanks for posting nigel.
look forward to hearing more on this.. 😀

Thanks Rob, I’m still not sure how well it went really (I’m in a bit of a daze I guess 😕 ), I’d like to see it in a couple of days time and check out if it still looks good once things have had a chance to settle down. It was a bit of a pig of a job not helped by them having silicone sealed the sill covers onto the car – vinyl just won’t stick to it so it made that section a bit tricky.
There are a few little knife marks in the paint work but it shouldn’t be too visible at 150mph 😉more later….

Traffic wasn’t too bad Nigel, I’ve been home for a while, showing off my Porschey pics to the family 😀 😀 Thank you again for today, thoroughly enjoyed it 😀
Below are a few pictures from the start of the job, as Nigel has said, very bizarre and certain areas were horrendous to fit, but what an experience 😀 I’d do it all again in a heart beat 😀
Cheers, Dewi

quote :Two words will haunt us for ever … Rear …. Bumper!
looking at it from this new angle i can see why mate! 😆 😆
looks a right headache and a half.. 😮
so how did you manage it.. was it done in a whole with the odd hidden slit or very mush a stretch job? 😕great stuff.. keep the pictures coming.. 😛
-
Great work guys 😀 I bet you are very chuffed right now … along with being knackered 😀 Can only imagine what a nightmare the rear bumper was ……. 😮 The job really does look great 😉
More pics the merrier ….. 😛

Sat here with a glass of wine looking over the pics, I’m really please with how its turned out. Can I just say though, my part in it was tiny compared to the amount of work Nigel put in. He worked patiently and methodically on the entire vehicle, but particularly the rear bumper. Any imperfections or minor defaults aren’t from lack of effort, as Nigel, and Emmett worked harder than I’ve ever seen anyone work with vinyl to get the job finished!
As I say, thoroughly enjoyed the day, and again, thank you Nigel. You’re a top bloke and one hell of a wrapper 😀
Cheers, Dewi

No problem mate, glad you enjoyed it and maybe learnt a trick or two (dont forget the alignment shortcut keys in corel or the reg plate tips 😉 )
Rob, we initially were going to do the rear bumper all in one piece…. and it would have been fine I reckon except in the process of pulling back the vinyl on the second side we damaged the film in a really obvious place 😥 😥 so I decided to cut it down the centre and put a join in which was a bit of a shame but to be honest you can’t really see it anyway.
We started with 20m of 610mm film and had about 6″ left spare at the end 😕 which was a bit close for comfort 😀
I had to REALLY stretch the vinyl into the number plate recess on the bumper and only time will tell if it stays put (fingers crossed though eh)Dewi helped out a bit more than he’s letting on really so well done for your bits also mate 😀 it’s a learning curve for me too and so it’s nice to have that extra pair of hands for tricky situations.

Well done you two – excellent work and lots of fun doing it I’m sure 😀

Looks like a top job from where I’m standing. Overcoming the little C*** ups that occur is all part of the fun. I don’t know about you blokes, but I was always abolutely cream crackered after a wrapping job. Hard work maties. (Or maybe I’m just getting old.) Anyway, I’m glad it went well. I was thinking of you blokes yesterday when I was sitting in the garden with a glass of pop. 😉

Seems like a lot of work but the end product makes it worth it.
-
you and nigel must be well chuffed!! 😀 😀
great to see the end product looking fab!! 😆 😆
well done 😛 😛

Excellent work lads.
I bet you needed a stiff drink when you got in from fitting that one!
Good experience though. -
Phew! I’m exhausted just looking at the photos, I can feel the tension in the air!
You have done a fantasic job, massive round of applause :jump:
Cheers

Really enjoyed that, hope Nigel got to see it.
No idea what position it finished in though 😕

Well spotted Dewi, I’ve not seen any tv coverage (mums 60th birthday party this weekend so duty calls!)
Great to hear it has survived in one piece – hope there are not too many scraped panels (or rear bumpers 🙄 )
I guess I will soon get to hear at the start of the week when they get back !Nigel
