I’m starting to get a bit better at this sort of stuff.
Enjoy.

having been using the arlon myself jason and getting the hang of it now, keep up the good work.

Hey Paul, It has a high initial tack and is pretty aggressive. But thats why I like it I know its going to stay put.
-
How do u find it in the recess area’s panels of van? i know there was not much of recess in the bus but just in general how do u find it during application to deep areas?
-
I use the 3M Rollers for recessed areas. The vinyl performs well. You might get a slight discoloration depending on how far you push the film. It isn’t really noticeable only during the application you can see a slight shift. I post heat to 120 degrees Celsius and so far my applications have stayed put.
I only had one channel on this bus which was only about 6-10mm deep and 80mm high approximately.

looks good mate! We have a wrap course booked at the end of the month, it was cheaper to fly someone over here than the four of us go over to uk, really looking forward to it, cant wait to get my teeth into projects like that!!

Nice job mate. I like the idea of the 2 passengers at the window waving.
-
Looks good mate.. Just out of curiosity what would you charge for something like that – just a ball park figure?

Job looks like a million dollars.
wouldn’t take a cent less

Couldnt agree more Peter. I do not do a lot of this sort of thing anymore and therefore find it hard to competitively price jobs like this.

I think its in the 5-6k mark. My brother does all the pricing and sales. I just do the work 😛 Only teasing his done a lot of production work this week while I was busy on that bus over the weekend.
-
Yeah 5k seems about what I would charge. I just put in a price for wrapping a new holden combo, roof and all – I went in at 3650 + gst and they said I was $1200 over priced compared to others. This included design as well – I just said sorry but that was my price and so I lost the job. It does not worry me as there is no point in doing it for little money when you have to stand over it afterwards.

It’s sometimes hard to price. We do our pricing based on material and then add on the installation. Some vehicles require more work then others.
The quality some people put out think its industry standard to provide jobs and a standard that I cry at when I see. No matter what we charge for the install I want my installs to be as flawless as they can be. But also I still see myself at being very new at this thing and probably take longer then I need to. I am of the belief the client shouldn’t have to pay for my continual learning. I think I work at double the speed at when I first started. So you only get faster by making mistakes, stepping back and realising what caused your mistake and learning from it. Most time is spent correcting errors in the way your applying the vinyl. I’m also getting more confident at trimming excess vinyl to get around mirrors and other obstacles without removing them from the vehicle which reduces the time taken as well.

Don’t get to fussed about not winning jobs. We loose jobs daily based on price alone. But we know we are there abouts in price with some of the guys in the industry that put out quality work.

I’m the same James…. Its goods advice from Jason too. I don’t lose sleep over not getting full wraps. Working on my own, a bus like this would take me 3 or 4 days easily. I’d charge closer to 6K myself. I prefer part wraps because I can handle that sort of work much easier.
Of course in SEQld, we have some of the most dedicated wrap companies there is.
I could never compete with Clegg Media or some of the others as they have dedicated teams of wrappers, that knock out two cars a day in purpose designed factories. So, I don’t even try frankly.
Those bigger companies are not interested in part wraps though, so that is what I target.
-
Clegg Media are not too far from me, I am at Victoria point. They have a very good reputation for wrapping but are still not the cheapest – but they do have the contacts.
I do never worry about people beating me on price but do get annoyed sometimes as we all do in this game. -

I agree 100%. I quoted on a coaster bus wrap for a long term client a year or so ago. Been doing his buses for year.
I got undercut by $500, so he went with the other guy. I quoted on 3M wrap material etc… and promised it wouldn’t pop etc….
The other guy that got the job used standard material, and it popped out of the recesses within 2 months.
I took a photo of the job and asked the company owner what he was going to do about it.
He said he’d discussed it with the sign company and they said that any sign company who claimed they could produce a wrap that would not pop in recesses was lying and shouldn’t be trusted.
I was livid! If it was a sprinter I wouldn’t have made the claim at the time, but a coaster has very mild recesses. I’ve done plenty of coasters and they don’t pop ever.
So what annoys me most is not losing the job, but losing the job to an inferior application.
-
Vinyl pop out of that little recess on the coaster? If you spend a bit more time you can lay the vinyl in and have no stretch at all. Only reason I go over it is so the design is perfectly seamless on the front and rear sections where that recess comes back up to the flat portion of the vehicle. Otherwise it would get laid in every time.
They obviously don’t know about post heating vinyl. But then again cutting you out by $500 they only allocate so much time and be done with it.

A wrap is the kind of job which is very easy to under charge. Not many people take into the account the design time, cleaning time (which should be at least half a day), over heads and room in the price in case something goes wrong (will you be prepared to fix something your not happy with?).
The worst thing you can do is to under price and actually end up paying to do a wrap so that is why you should not lose sleep when you don’t win these quotes.
