    Hi,

Can someone point me in the right direction, I need a vehicle template for my van so I can draw up a design on the PC.

I have been to Mr Clipart but you have to buy the full CD.

Does any other site just sell single templates?

    Thanks

    Darrell….

you cannot buy them singular. the best UK vehciles disk on the go is by imapct sign solutions. once you purchase the CD you can request singular vehicles as they come out for upto a year of purchase. from then you have the option to upgrade the CD completely.
i have to say vehicle outline librarys are probably your cheapest investment. no more running round measuring up your van if its not local.
more professional looking vehicle layouts for your customer etc etc..

Rob, I think it is a brave man who takes the vehicle outlines and cuts letters without checking measurements, badge positions etc. – or perhaps I’m getting cynical in my old age.

no your right mate. sizes should always be checked.. im with you on that one. 😉
but, in all honesty i cant really remember the last time i checked the sizes of a van. 🙄 yes, i do check the rear bodie sizes of large trucks and the like but unless the design is very complex and needs to be butted from one panel to the next i dont bother. generaly i find that if my customer wants text, number etc on a van door ill put it on but i never ever over-cram areas. i also try and design van layouts missing reccessed areas were i can and im “again” never really taking a line of text upto the edge of a panel. always well within. this coupled with impacts layouts which i do find to be the pretty good on dimensions. i have no real problems.
with vehicle outlines i find the only real problems come with the back doors and manufacturers logo badges etc. these are never in the exact same position on every vehicile. if i end up running my design into them i pull them off and apply.

another thing i would never do is.. lets say a panel on the side of a sprinter van needs to be covered in vinyl. i would never use the template from the vehicle to cut this. there are lots of dos and donts though.. i agree 😉

I vinyled a Merc Vito today from artwork supplied by a graphic designer. Don’t know what CD he was using but the rear quarter panels were way out, on size and shape! I was supposed to fill with blue and overlay white phone numbers but there was no way I could ever cut to fit! 🙁

I favour the Digital camera way. Take a good side on shot, measure a panel, I usually measure the side door in millimetres. When downloaded into Corel Draw I simply draw a box the true width of the door, say 900mm and scale the photograph up to fit. Not only do you get the actual van in the actual colour but any hidden badges are also highlighted.

Vehicle outlines are essential to me.

Badges are no problem – rip ’em off. We throw boxes of the damn things away.

We are coming to the end of a batch of 460 vans for a client. They come direct from Vauxhall and are specifically made for this end user. Vauxhall know damn well what happens but they still put the badges on in the factory and they stay on for about a week before we bin them. Stupid or what?
