Vehicle racking / ideas for long wheelbase high roof van
Posted by Dan james on 10 January 2017 at 16:44Hello i was wondering if anyone’s come across any good ways of racking all your stuff in the van so you’ve still got space for large signage and boards etc. Going to rack out a ford transit high roof long wheel base. Wanted to get all my tools ladders a tower and a few boards of different materials always on there so I don’t have to keep taking stuff on and putting it on so it’s organised Any pictures or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here’s what our medium wheel sprinter looks like in the back.
We carry 2.5 lifts of tower just slides in, held in place with narrow unistrut framework floor to roof with a high level shelf over the top. We also have a ladder rack attatched to the framework which holds triple ladder.
We stand panels on edge and tie them to the framework, this way you can remove tower to strip old signage and leave the new panels safely on the van until you need them.
On the other side we have 3 narrow shelves. For fixings etc
Enough space in the middle for a 12m tray over tray fascia. And we have recently added leds stuck to the roof – which are absolutely brilliant -literally
Double security locks all round and we still have to remove tools at night :bangshead:
It works for us

I’ve seen Colin van first hand in the flesh and I don’t think this picture does it justice mate! Your van is superb you need to get some closer shots on here!

Cheers guys you’ve all got good aspects I can take and use when I do mine. The tower rack especially is going to help me and by the looks of it I can build something to go above it as well. I couldn’t find any racks for towers on google that’s the first one I’ve seen so massive help. I’ve currently got a double tower but thinking of getting a new single one because it takes up far too much room in the van for what I need it for.

Dan our tower is single widthe with an 8ft long board we find it best as often working on narrow pavements we have 5 lifts with outriggers of course but not great, if I get to the point where I need to go over 4 lifts then it’s usually cherry picker
James I have a nice van but nothing on your printers mate -
