the best one on the go (and no im not being biased) is being advertised on the homepage. (impact) click the image and it will take you to the site.
the guy that owns the company is a regular here on the boards. Brian hays..
there are others on the go, but i feel the impact one is best suited & most accurate for the UK.

i only know of ingram, but like i have said. i have heard reports from others that some outlines are not that accurate, while others seem to be named different etc. i think this has something to do with them selling a library for a european equivelant of impact. so cars like a corsa are called opel or something like that.

im sure there is a few threads on this site covering this topic, i would suggest maye using the search engine at the top of our page. hope this helps some ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ve tried both. Go with Impact.

Free updates of new vehicles for a year as well. Useful because you can bet that Ford will bring out new Transit the minute you’ve bought a disc.

This something I have meaning to ask too – does the Impact disc list vehicle names? the one I use just has numbers ie Ford transit then AI file 459 – 501 type of thing so you have to look through them all to find the one you want?

the disk should come with a broswer or a booklet showing the type of van that represents the file number.

    Nigel,

I just bought the latest update from Impact, and yes it does have the names. You get a little book with all the models listed by name and then images of each aswell.
I would recommend it if your looking for one.

I think the Mr Clipart/Ingram one has a lot more outlines on it, although a lot are US or European. And it’s cheaper.

I agree that there are some vehicle clipart CDโ€™s out there with lots of bells & whistle & at lower cost. I think we need to be realistic about what the library really is for, & will we ever get round to blowing one of these whistles?
These CDโ€™s are one of the best things on the go for people in our line of work.
For visuals, size guides & more. They save us a great deal of time and money.
Where are the days of going out in the cold to measure a transit and rush back to the workshop, do a layout and rush back? (Yes, I know the sizes are for reference only)
Do we really need vehicle outlines from different countries?
    Will we ever use them?
What support comes with this type of European CD?
    I could go on!
Lets face it, if we need support its good to call someone that knows what they are talking about. Someone that wont say.. โ€œEhโ€ฆ(hand over the mouth peace) guy on the phone wants to know why he has a tank on his outline CD!โ€
What I think we should be saying is. Hell, for ยฃ20-ยฃ30 more I get the vehicles I want, with support and upgrades for a year. That & the fact it is BRITISH!

& No! I do not work for impact. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I donโ€™t even have the disk. I have used it though and I do intend on buying it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I would contest the fact that the Ingram one has more ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I don’t know of 1 Van or Truck that is on the British roads that we don’t have. Sure it has stuff from such well known names as Auwaert, Duewag, Karosa, Simens and the like.

We however have tons of stuff that they don’t, older vans such as old Astra’s, Meastro’s & Escorts. Loads of cars such from ones that are commonly used for courtesy cars, rally cars, 4wd, people carriers, London cabs etc etc. We are also working on some other stuff such as JCB’s and the like that may be usefull to some. And all the new stuff is free for a year if you ask!

If somebody were to come to you and ask for some layout on a Mitsubishi Evo VIII for example, the fact that we have that outline alone may well be worth the extra ยฃ20? or so.

The numbers quoted on some ad’s of there being 5000 vehicles & the like on the MR clipart cd (MR being the company that provide outlines for Ingram and the rest) are quite frankly ludicrous. Go count ’em! ๐Ÿ™‚

Since Johnchilds does fleets of vehicles and spends most of his time doing them I kinda go with him on his choice

1 I’ve got Mr Clipart and it does not always have the vehicle you want
2 I’m not particularly interested in American models because I don’t realistically feel I will get a call to do one
3 As Rob says you can be searching for a model and think you do not have it but you do! – its just under the UK name for that model.
4 although you get a browser on the Mr Clipart CD (in PDF format)I much prefer to have manual that can be glansed through

I`ve just bought Brians outline cd anolng with the “graphics 2 go” cd.

I bought MrCliparts outlines 2 years ago, because it had the roofs outlines on. They were well out. No where near.

I have used both Ingram and Impact vehicle outlines, neither are perfect, some vehicles being more accurate than others and I would never cut without measuring first, that said as a design aid for customer approval thay are invaluable and the next time I upgrade my outlines – Impact will get my vote. If you are a Signlab user having them in .cdl is enough but the book is also better. Just my 2 pence worth.
