Vehicle lettering-quality motor
Posted by leethesign99 on 14 March 2005 at 08:27Mornin’ all,
9.00 a.m. Monday and the first problem of the week. It’s partly an ethical one ’cause I like nice cars.
This ‘ere classy blonde Swedish bird has just been in and is starting up an estate agency around here (No 78 in this town alone!)
She wants the usual stuff (for sale boards etc) , BUT she’s asked me what graphics to put on her car to advertise the business. It’s a brand new Mercedes Coupe She doesn’t want it to look tacky, but the bloody thing is not only worth 80 grand – it’s dark blue! Do I do something in White? Silver? Yellow? Chrome? Oh Gawd how can I bring myself to do it – and if I cannot resist the lure of the dosh, what the hell can I do?
My initial reaction was “Don’t do it” – is this right?
I think I need a lay down for a minute – then perhaps the rest of the day off!
If anyone’s got any bright ideas I’d be delighted to hear them.
I’m going back to my padded cell now

How about a lighter shade of blue. Is she single, and do you want me to come over and do it?
I speak Spanish and would love to buy your place, but the missus is not interested 🙁
Have you had any luck yet? (with the sale, not the blonde)

Soddit Lee, it’s only a Merc. Get on with it. 😀
I don’t like white on dark colours because I always think it looks stark and cheap. My own personal choice would be a very light grey because this just tones it down a bit whilst still retaining enough contrast to be legible.
And don’t forget that if she is happy to pay premium price for her motor then she should be happy to pay premium price for the graphics on it. 😀

What about doing some window graphics and or some magnetics, nice way out maybe ?
Mark. 😀 -
magnetics urgggggg.
I agree with John a grey or even silver.
I would say dont go ott but be stylish in the design / layout and not to bold.Tim.

If she wants her car lettered Lee, no matter how expensive the car, go for it! 😀 As has been suggested, a more subtle approach in respect of vinyl colours could make it look classy, although being a Merc coupe, the problem is where to stick it! 😮
Carrie & Stephen did a dark blue van a while ago in etch vinyl and it turned out really nice, might be worth looking into.
Cheers, Dewi

Magnitics on an £80 grand Merc, in sunny spain, thats asking for trouble….
I would go for a light blue, or matalic silverSimon

Lee, I did a new merc a year or so ago, for a chinese woman who was buying up all the security companies down the coast. Real tough nut she was.
Had no problem signing the coupe because a) she asked me to, and b) she asked me to.
I’d be using metalic silver or metalic gold myself. Both colours give a sophosticated appearance on dark blue. I’d suggest, being an agent, she would prefer sophisticated rather than cheap (white on blue)
my 2c’s anyway.
cheers

Wowie…..
thanks for all the replieschaps and chapesses.I particularly like the sound of etch vinyl on this job, so I think I’ll give that a little trial and see if that works.
The bird came back with her old man (well, can’t win ’em all) and he wants their coat-of-arms type logo on the doors! Thinks he’s the bloody Qeen now. (Royal, not limp wristed) so I’ll print one of them off and have a go. This could end up being one of three things:
1) Interesting
2) Mind blowing
3) Bleeding disatrousOh, Dave…not sold yet, but two v. interested parties now the sun has come out for the forseeable future.
I’ll keep you all informed.
Oh well, here goes..

A coat of arms on the doors??…Delusions of Grandeur I’d say.
Make sure you charge them a fortune Lee :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

Engine turned signgold would look real classy on dark blue particularly if its a coat off arms type logo. my 2p’s worth. 😎
-
Signworxs,
What’s “engine turned signgold”? – I’ve never heard of it, but sounds like it could be worth a look.
-
It’s real nice to see a post from lee again.

Hi Lee,
I don’t know what the problem is its only a “Berlin Taxi”!
I read an article the other day that said BMW’s & Mercs were as common on the road as Fords these days!
whilst I’m on… is it just me or have all the Volvo drivers now bought Mercs? pulling out in front of you, dawdling around etc.
Don’t sweat about the value, we vinyl boats worth Millions and some of the requests would make your hair stand on end!
I have a simple rule now… if they request it and sign the proof they can have what they want on what ever they want!
So go on dip yr bread and charge um good!
Regards,
Johnboy 😎

Steve, Andy, John et al….
Thanks for that info – I’m just about to call and get some signgold to try – look intriguing.
Cheers
Lee
