    Nice Job,
I often thought of doing this to my car, does anyone know if there are implications for your insurance cover if you do this to an ordinary car?

Harry there are restrictions on how much of the back window you are allowed to cover, can’t remember the figures of the top of my head but I am sure it was in percentage terms. With something like this where it is mainly text then there isn’t a problem.

Hi Martin, sorry, didnt explain myself very well, I was wondering does it turn it into a commercial vehicle in insurance company’s eyes?

I have that problem as well Harry !!!

I had a customer a couple of years ago ask his broker that question and the answer he got was that if the vehicle was used for the same purpose it was insured for then it didn’t make a difference. Basically what they were saying is that if you are using a car for business then it should be insured for business but if it was only being used for social domestic and pleasure use then it was OK.

Lots of small businesses use a car for their business but I bet not many people stop to think about insurance being different.

It seems a gray area, as my policy states that I may use the car in getting to and from my business, but not for conveying tools etc.(which I don’t) I just wanted to advertise on the window, but would be nervous about giving them a loophole.

When I asked my insurance (Direct Line) about commercial insurance they told me the only difference in cover was that the equipment inside would be covered for theft with commercial insurance and not if it was only covered domestically. I think I remember being told that I couldn’t actually insure my car commercially as a signmaker’s vehicle. (If I was a taxi or driving school for example it was a different matter).

    Any thoughts?

Harry of course its a Grey area, insurance companies like it that way because they can then reject claims and pay out less !!!! If you are only driving to work and back and you have a different vehicle for use at work or don’t use a vehicle at work then you should be OK.
