hey oop,
did this today, nowt special in terms of design (fonts were customers choices), but a challenge none the less !
LG 7yr black, with coburn 5yr exterior polished silver (chrome) on top, the chrome vinyl wasn’t anywhere near as bad to work with as i’d expected, though it does want to be weeded immediately to prevent the adhesive seemingly bleeding back together !
did the test cuts and all seemed fine, even discovered that the chrome backing paper was thin enough to see through when layed ontop of the black on the bench, so no need for reg’ marks to go wrong etc, or so i thought !
windy as hell today, gusting to 40mph at times !! but i persisted, caused a few near catastrophies and a few bubbles, but got all the background on eventually.
then the oh so simple job of laying the chrome ontop, hinging and laying, simple, laid it over the black………. bugger !!! no see thru on a dark van !! down to the workshop to initially trim around the taller and end letters to centre up, but this was taking far too long, customer needed to be away by 5 !
so into the workshop again to do the unthinkable (sorry rob). i did some test cuts and tried applying it wet onto vinyl, and it worked a treat,
i was of course a little concerned about using water and a metal film not breathing, but the results were good, so ultimately, with the exception of the bonnet, the chrome was all put on (at the customers request) wet, word by word due to the rediculous windy conditions !!
the result is a few sections of slightly off centre chrome text, a windswept and somehow sunburned Hugh, and an extremely happy customer !!!
