They used
100 metres of blue
40 metres of black
40 metres of silverApprox

Dont tell me that was on one unit and a van! You must have done a few more!
Peter -
Give or a take a few metres.
It is very deceptive how much vinyl was used. The curved blue lines were not economical. We could only get one blue curve on a 610 width vinyl in most cases, so there was alot of wasted vinyl.
I did estimate around 25% less vinyl
-
really nice job done darren 😀
you must be well pleased with the outcome 😛 on the matter of vinyl could you not have worked on a side at a time and butted the stripes in together to fit the 610 wide ? just a thought cause that’s a lot of vinyl used, but at the end of the day it’s all about learning thanks for posting 😀

Sorry mate, wasnt meant to be a rude or sarcastic comment, I should have been more helpful, and explained how you could have done it with a lot less vinyl. 😳
But my mouth often
moves before my brain connects 😉

It was not taken that way.
These are my first car graphics produced after setting my new business up and have only been in the game for 1 Year.
So, ‘you should have done it this way’ is welcome.

Looks great Darren, you sure picked a tricky looking job for a first one 😉 The fitting looks top quality as well, so well done 😀

And I thought my first car project was hard 😮
Looking good and very well done!
I really like the design with the real Greek blue.Good luck with your business and keep us posted.

A well fitted job. Well done. You’ve obviously taken great care trimming all the edges and tucking round the panels.
I would like to see the cutting file for that, I’d like the challenge of doing it in less than 180 metres!
-
As a matter of interest what would you have estimated the Vinyl usage would be if you was asked to price this job?
-
I wouldn’t have estimated the vinyl usage. I would have nested the parts onto a page and got it accurate to within a millimetre. It may have taken me half an hour to do but it means that you never underestimate the amount (and cost!) of vinyl needed. Worth the extra effort when you are talking about such a lot of vinyl.
You say you were 20 metres out? That’s £30 in vinyl using the cheapest stuff, plus application tape.
-
In hindsight extra time spent estimating would have achieved the exact measurements.
Unfortunatly sometimes its hard to allow yourself 30 mins on a estimate that may not come your way.
I already have a list of things I’d do differently for the next lot. fortunatly for me the client loves the job and understands that I may need to charge that little bit extra next time.

Yes you’re right. You can’t always spend time on jobs you haven’t got yet. What with vinyl being relatively cheap these days, it’s probably easier to just allow plenty of spare.
I’m stuck in the habit though, as I used to make graphic kits from vinyl that was about 87 squids a metre! You didn’t want to be a long way out with that!
-
Big G..
87 squids…..what was it? 24c gold plated
PS cracking job

Big g
must have miscalulated a few though, I seem to recall the firm he worked for went skint,
Now we know why? 😀 😉
Peter -
Yes that’s true. It was probably due to that bit of vinyl I chucked in the bin 3 years ago!
Sometimes I find myself beavering away for ages trying to get the most out of a roll of vinyl, then think to myself “bloody nora, it’s £1.50 a metre!”. Not worth the worry really. Course when I started there was a limited range of vinyls about and it was about £15 a metre for 380 wide.
-
Know what you mean BG
But a few weeks ago I had to buy some expensive stuff. and of course when you press the button to cut, the plotter gets its revenge 😀
Back on topic. the Merc tractor unit and combi, I drew it this morning, and even being liberal with the vinyl, good only use 50 m for the lot max(blue)
Sorry I didnt save the cut file. My gerber blew up and had other thing to sort. If I get a chance in the next few days will redo it.
Peter -
That’s what they told me. Whether that was the cost of the vinyl or the cost including flooding it to PSDB blue, I don’t know. In any case a roll of diamond grade at 610 is 3500 squids which equates to 70 squids a metre. I also got rather nervous cutting that signgold stuff; costs a bleedin’ fortune.
Anyway, I’ve taken this off topic somewhat. I still like the lorry and van. 🙂
