Managed to resize some photos today of some bits and pieces of work we`ve done over the last 4 weeks. Might take a while to load up as theres a few pics.

This came to us in factory white. Resprayed all in 2k paints and lettered with 751.

Mark at Labelsds might recognise the Eagles on the front corner panel.

Scania Trailer and drag came to us in red with the previous owners decals. Used a combination of 2k paint and basecoat with lacquer. Vinyl in Oracal again.

Crane hire seems to be in demand again as this was one of a spare of cranes we done over March and April. Came in to us in yellow with old signwriting painted on.

A local bulk haulage firm who we finally persauded to try some “digital” images. This was one of 6 new trailers.

I think everyone in central Scotland has had a go at these Wiseman`s vehicles. You`d think the shape of the “hide” wouldn`t be that important?. It has to be millimetre perfect and identical on vehicle of the same weight. Vehicles came in factory white. All the black you see is paint and trhe hide is shaped with PC generated spray mask film for accuracy.

This is one that Fastsigns in Airdrie (Rob`s company) helped me with. My plotter was wide enough so Andrew ran it through their 1220 Graphtec. The vehicle finally came off a contract about 4 weeks ago and we were able to refurbish and apply the decal kit. Refurbishing another Orkey Herring 45 ft trailer this week which will be receiving a full digital wrap, sides and rear, courtesy of Fastsigns. 😉

This was the first van i ever tried wrapping. Just the yellow on the rear end. We worked out that it would have taken a similiar amount of time to just mask and paint it as it would to wrap it. 🙂

In the olden days, my grandfather used to hand brush the orange band on these trucks, in the not so olden days, my father used to spraypaint the orange band on these trucks, then signwrite the name. Nowadays i vandalise it all with plastic. 🙂

    Some pretty standard stuff.

….and some more bread and butter stuff.

and lastly. Another firm who has had about every sign writer in Scotland have a go at. We get to letter them if they need painted out of white. Pretty straight forward stuff.

    All TRUCKING marvellous.

They scare me and i run a mile whenever i get a sniff of a customer wanting it done. I would send them to you if you wasnt 500 miles away.

Lovely work, especially the Wiseman truck….millimetre perfect….are you saying someone actually gets out their tape and would even dispute a few mill over a 5metre truck??

Our first encounter with this company left a very bitter tatse in our mouths Cokka.

We were given the instructions via photgraphs and 5 volvos were delivered to our premises.

We set about doing the first one paying NO attention to the pattern of the hide. I took a look at it, matched it roughly, and made the stencils for the painters.

When finished, it looked beautiful and the Volvo dealer picked it up, delivered it, and we started on the second. Later the next afternoon we were phoned and told there was a problem with the livery and could we attend the customer`s premises. We paused the second truck and went to see what the problem was.

Yup, the transport manager and his then sidekick were out at it standing with photos and a measuring tape.

“This isn`t identical to the others”.

“At no stage was the word “identical” used to describe this livery” i replied.

“Well it`s not the same as all the rest, the hide pattern isn`t “bumpy” enough”.

    “You want it bumpier?”

    “yes”

“May i asked why it wasn`t explained clearly to me the importance of the hide being identical on all vehicle of similiar load bearing weight”.

“We thought that was obvious” came the reply.

At this stage, you feel like telling him to go **** himself, but there were 5 more to do etc with the prospect of a few more.

We conceded, the job came back, we had to feather out the lines, repaint the entire sides white, then re-apply the hide shape identical to all 17.5 tonne vehicles.

I did feel peaved that they never cautioned us as to the importance of a wavey line. I guess you live and learn.

I always feel the last laugh is when they cheque drops through the door. It makes these situations slightly more bearable heh.

We also have a customer who will NOT under any circumstances accept the “moustache” shape of lettering that goes on a Ford Transit bonnet.

You cut a straight line of text and apply it to a Transit bonnet and take a few steps back. It slopes down at each end looking like a moustache. For this particular customer, we have to shape it in the cutting software so it compensates for the moustache droop when fitted. 🙂

Idiosyncracies?, they all have them 😉

Nice stuff McRod, do you do all the resprays in house then? You must have a huge workshop.

The guy who designed the Wiseman Dairies logo lives up here now, working in a marina!

    Cheers

    No wonder you’re lying down.
I’d be exhausted from doing all those trucks myself!
    Nice work.

    Hi Dave,

We had a new Commercial Oven installed 4 years ago which is a major help in this game. We can get the livery on 90 minutes after the paint is applied.

great work rod, hats off to you mate, i hate doing cabs 😮
not so much the application, i think its because your constantly working off tressles and trying to get at headboards etc can be a pain. (having said that, you probably dont need tressles ) then there is fitting location, when we go into places like scania etc they have huge bays with front and back doors open with a hurricaine wind blowing through. vinyls get dusty and of course they want perfectiong on 100 grand units 😕 :lol1: ill stop my winging now… :lol1:

thanks for taking the time top post your work mate 😀

    Nice work 😉

I notice most hauliers take great pride in their trucks, but maybe not so their vans. The first van I posted on here was for a local haulage firm, who just wanted their name on the side. They recently got a new truck and it does look nice, I think the extra lights on it cost more than my van !!

If I could just get them to give me a couple of grand and say ” here make this van look good ” 😀
