Hi, I enquirer a few years ago, so things might have changed now..But I was told
to come back when we had 5 vehicles

We do have 3 vans and a mini for private use, they are all on separate policies.

One thing we had to do was make sure the vans were insured by using the no cliams of the person/company on the logbook, as we were using private no claims got from our cars on the vans, it was an easy swap over to commercial, but we can’t change from commercial to private after…..

Denise, how did you manage to do that?? When I first got a van my insurance was handled through a broker who told me that commercial insurance was different & I couldn’t use the no claims I had, phoned a few insurance companies just to check & they all said the same thing.
Had a van for about 5 years & then got caught going back to a car even though it was for business use.
Now drive an MPV which is insured as a business car but all the seats are out most of the time so it’s really a small van. Got them to put certain things in writing just to make sure I was covered.

Same as me Derek, can’t see why they do that other than it makes them more money, if you have no claims you have no claims.
Not sure why you had to start again with the small van as it would still be commercial insurance.
When your looking for quotes it might be worth asking for business insurance for the car as well if your trying to get them on one policy, my car is insured for business use (as business car) but I can still use it as social domestic & pleasure.

From memory they mirrored my/our no claims from the car to the van….

Having said that last year we got rid of a 4×4 for a vivaro (sp ) and they wouldn’t
Mirror it, I think it all depends upon how much business they need, some years I can play one off from the other, but other times they don’t want to play…
