Our VJ 1604 has stopped printing.

I set a print of earlier and realised there was a wrong colour on it as it was printing.
So as usual I stopped the file processing on the computer and canceled the print on the printer.
I changed the colour and set it of once again.
I was out of the room for a few minutes and when I came back it had printed one pass and then carried on printing but no ink was being layed onto the substrate.(had gone on for 18")
I cancelled the print once again and did a nozzle check that showed that CMYK were not firing at all (I have never seen this before).
So I proceeded with a head clean and you can see the ink being pulled through so there is no blockage.
I have put in new inks and everything reads 100%.

Everything seems to run normally when setting a print off apart from the fact no ink whatsoever is coming out from the nozzle

Any help would be appreciated as per usual these things only break down when you need them most.

This is still running it’s original head and dampers (which I have never touched).

    Help…………………..

    Thanks All

Anyone had any similar issues? Even with a different brand of printer?

I would reboot the printer first……….. disconnect from the mains for a minute or so to allow the capacitors in the circuit boards to discharge fully before reconnecting.

Thanks John, but we tried that first. We have been led to believe a fuse has blown

    UPDATE:

Right guys we have replaced the F2 fuse which has got the printer printing again, the only trouble is there is a magenta block around/on top of everything.

Also another observation is that when we do a nozzle check (even though it also prints a magenta block all around it) out of the 8 channels it prints 2 black, 2cyan, 2 yellow but only 1 magenta, the other is missing completely.

Does anyone know what is causing this?

When that happened on my Mimaki JV3 it was a slider board that had gone.

Hi, i haven’t had the time to follow up with an conclusion to this post i started due to being so bloody busy once we got the printer up and running again, which were the longest 7 days of my life

Turned out it was the CR cables, they had shorted out and that is why the F2 fuse had blew. We also replaced the printhead, as we have owned the machine from new (5 years ago) and had not replaced the head, even though we only had a few nozzles out. It could have been worse though, if it wasnt the CR cables or the head, it could have been the motherboard aswell!!!!!

A big thank you to Stafford Cox, who helped diagnose the problem over the phone!!! And even sent us a DX5 printhead (on a special next day delivery) to test, to see if our prinhead was the problem. Thanks again!!!

Also, a big thank you to Colin Tupman, who came and fixed our machine

So glad to be up and running again!!! 😀
