Can anyon shed any light on digital printing onto whie reflective vinyl.

Trying to get a price put together for putting the livery on 14 buses.
Company want there new logo printing on white / avery reflective vinyl.

Newbie at Racoon suggests printing then laminating then laminating to the reflective, then cutting to shape !!!!!. Why cant they print onto the refl’ve – laminate, and then cut to shape ???.

As anyone printed onto reflective on a Versacamm ?

Are blades availble to cut refl’ve on the Vcamm ?

Monster digital reckon they cant print onto refl’ve either.

So, does anyone have a soloution to the problem?

we had a job similar to this and we had to print onto clear and mount onto reflective then contour cut on our Summa T cutter
    works well in the end

    Hi Tim,

I have had success printing onto Hexis engineering reflective with a VersaCAMM and then laminating and cutting (I tend to use one blade for everything and replace them as and when required).

I do produce quite a lot of full colour reflectives but I tend to print onto clear, laminate and then overlay onto reflective and then cut.

The reason I prefer to print onto clear is very simple – if something goes wrong it only costs a few quid, printing directly onto reflective on the other hand – makes for expensive mistakes/errors/print drop out etc. Ouch !!!

If you want any further info on the settings/profiles I’ve used just let me know.

Mark, if you could give me some idea what settings and profile you are using, that would be helpful. Just about to do a small test print to see what happens!!!!.

    Hi Tim,

First just run a calibration print to see if the vinyl will actually take the ink with a 35 & 35 degree print/dry heat. If all ok after an hour calibrate the media.

    A good place to start would be the generic profile from Roland;

    GG_GSPVC Glossy Gold_Silver Vinyl

    720 dpi
    Uni-directional
    Variable Dry
    1
    16
    500
    0.0

print the ‘media’ file from the ‘psfolder’ on Drive C:

You may need to reduce the ink limit to about 180 or even less if the vinyl will only take a small amount of ink. Have a play and let us know how you get on.

By virtue of the fact you are printing onto reflective you do not want to have more ink than is necessary otherwise you end up reducing the amount of light bounced back off the vinyl.

I’m out all day today, but will be around tomorrow if you need any help.

    Mark
