My boss has been looking into these machines for a while dur to finacial constrates it seems better to buy secondhand rather than buy a cheap machine thats not good enough so far he’s looked at:

Scitex Grandjet C3 3.2M and a Durst Rho but having had a Lambda in the past we know that durst can be expensive on maintainace contracts and for parts.

I have not had any dealings with Scitex does anyone else which would you prefer?

The machine will be 3m wide approx.

Hi,we been doing some research ourselves but for flatbeds, well i have to say that if your aiming at the Roll-2-Roll print market then you have plenty of choice out there, do you intend to print paper, vinyl, banner or fabrics?

Firstly, the Scitex range is now owned by HP, so you must have a chat with them about how they will support the machine. They are currently training more engineers in the UK. Art Systems as posted on front page have announced a link directly to HP.

Secondly, Durst who we are in discussion with ourselves, they will provide 3-4 levels of support and have UK engineers, the Lambda however is a photographic printer that uses red, green and blue lasers to create the image, not a vinyl printer.

I would Gandinnovation to that list, although the pound to the dollar got weak, we did have some very strong quotes from them and they have a fantastic demo room in Canada, they also have a solvent, UV and a AquaJet for fabric printing. I was well impressed.

The Second user market, well you must find someone who will take on a support contract, who can fix the machine, where you can get heads, filters. etc and not forgetting the right ink!

I totally agree with Dave ….

3 of our 6 Digital printers are UV. The UV printers we have give great quality and a flexibility that our solvent printers don’t have when it comes to choosing substrates.
UV ink is a big issue, what type of substrate are you going to print on, what type of market indoor or outdoor. Many UV inks have strong odors especially on certain materials and this can cause come backs when used indoors. We have had customers send there employees home.

Like Dave says Durst, Hp/Nur, Gandinnovations are reliable suppliers another company I liked was Vutek and their QS3200r

Make sure the company you choose have a working service dept. When we worked together with Nur we never had a problem and everything was done from Brussels over the telephone. Other company’s or agents that have had their own service in country can’t always deliver. I can imagine that the UK might not have the same problems we have here in little Sweden.

Talk to as many people or company’s as possible and sort through the Bullshit ….

Dave I will send you a mail later today.
