• USB to Paralell

Hi guys, just found this board! Hope somebody can help.
We currently run a GCC Signpal Ultra 610mm cutter.
On the PC it is connected to a Serial port, with the hardware key
dongle connected to Paralell port. I have recently purchased a new
notebook and of course there is no Paralell port! I have tried a USB to Paralell adapter cable but the software does nor recognise the dongle.
Can I connect the cutter with this cable and connect the dongle to the Serial to Paralell adapter cable that was supplied with the machine?
The machine was supplied by Grafityp and they will do a part – ex on upgrade to USB for £95. Any feedback gratefully received.

    Regards, Ant.

Well USB is a good answer.. a lot of dongles on older software struggles with newer Windows XP… um.. there should be 2-3 modes for the Parallel port… Normal / BiDir / ECP ( i think ), toggle between them all if you can figure where it is.. i have not used a usb > parallel converter but it should be a control panel somewhere for it.

Anthony you can upgrade your software to version 7.0 which has a usb dongle, it would depend how old your Ultra is, as the main board may require a eprom upgrade.

Please contact me if you need further details.
