• UPS for Printer

Posted by John Wilson on 30 October 2008 at 13:04

Ok I got a power cut the other night there for about an hour or so

Got me thinking what if something happened while I was away and didn’t know about it so I’m thinking about a UPS just to keep the printer happy on standby if anything happens again

Anyone got good knowledge of UPS’s??

i bought one off ebuyer ages ago, worked great, it was a plexus model, got about 10-15 mins, depends on what it was loaded with, full load you would get only 2-3 mins backup….they are great just for backing-up so you’ve not lost anything, doubt you can get one reasonably priced to keep you working for ages though john, i could be wrong 😕

They’ve come right down in price over recent years.

Good rule of thumb – buy the BIGGEST you can afford.

The one I have on the factory server had a natty auto shutdown trigger (1200VA) – it’d power it for maybe 15mins – but rather than risk any data loss, it also trips the shutdown for a safe log-off.

Ebuyer is probably the best source at present.

8000VA might give you an extended ‘stand-by’ (hours) – but at £2500 ouch!

I have a Belkin UPS on both PC’s which will also keep the cutter running for 10-15 mins.
Open files are automatically saved and a proper shutdown carried out in your absence.

The more you spend, the longer you get power for.

Have a look on Dabs.com, where I got mine from.

Got my pc’c and engraving machine running through two, nothing on the plotter as yet. Good thing too is they also smooth the power during brown outs and momentary power outs. Most also include surge protection for connected equipment……….

    Got mine from Misco………….
