Upgrading my monitor
Posted by Ian Muir on 16 November 2008 at 18:53Hi
Time to get rid of my old crt monitor I think.Looking for a 20-24" LCD as replacement, any suggestions.
Are widescreen options the way forward, would my pc handle widescreen with no trouble?

It depends on your budget 🙂
Samsung T220 22" good and quite cheap – ~£240
Lenovo 22" L220X – £293
Samsung T245 – £400
Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP Black 24" – ~£420If you have wide pockets then take a look at professional LCDs
NEC MultiSync LCD2190UXi-BK 21.3" – £603
Basically NEC UX and SpectraView series are good when working with colors.
EIZO ColorEdge CG222W 22" – £800 (?)
Going up you can look at something for LaCie or if you are insane – Barco (although sizes start from 30").Don’t forget to check what type of matrix there is – S-IPS is far better for design/photography works than TN matrix.
If that would be me I would choose one of two top ones (Samsung or Lenovo)

its the graphic card, and not the pc that determines what monitor you can run, widescreen looks to be the only choice nowadays, so you need to make sure your graphic card can run the wide screen resolutions, some older ones wont, so an upgrade may be required, but then it depends how old your mainboard is, and what slots are available for graphics.Peter

Thomas is spot on with monitor choices if colour is going to be important in designing etc.. i add Apple mac monitors to that list too… i posted about this subject before if u do a search
