Uniform Cadet SP540 advice needed please?
Posted by Bert Chambers on 20 September 2012 at 15:53Hi guys, i bought a decoder strip for my uniform cadet sp 540. when i fitted it to the printer it keep stopping saying carriages disconnected which they werent. I but old strip back in and everything worked ok. I got in touch with supplier and he told me i had to set it up in service mode, by pressing the left, down, right directional button and on/off button. when i do that printer tells me "service mode is protected" and i cant enter service.

Try doing backwards ‘S’ then backwards ‘V’ first….
Down, right, left, up, right, down, left, then hold left, right and down together and power on 😉

Hi sorry how do you do backwards ‘S’ then backwards ‘V’
-
That’s the shape you draw on the arrow keys when going into service mode (or at least that’s how I remember it).
The code is Down, right, left, up, right, down, left, then hold left, right and down together and power on. As if you were drawing a backwards S and a backwards V on the arrow keys.
I hope I explained it better this time.

Hi again no joy i have tried that keeps coming up "service mode is protected" do you know any engineers who could help ??

From complete switch off you switch on the main switch on the right end.
Press the following in this order.
Up Arrow, Left Arrow, Right Arrow, Down Arrow.
Press these next 3 in this order but keep them pressed. You end up holding 3 buttons in.
Left Arrow, Down Arrow, Right Arrow.
Then press the mains switch on the front panel holding all 4 until the display comes up. -
staffords way for latter firmware. still quite a few years old

It’s unlikely that he would be able to lock you out of it (or at least I wouldn’t know how to 😳 )
Try switching it on just holding left down and right, that might work…?

Press Down, Right, Left, Up. Then press and hold in this order Right, Down & Left whilst still holding in press power.
