I’ve just recieved a letter from my bank informing me that they are introducing a monthly maintenance charge to my account! 👿 £5.85 to be exact! WHAT FOR?!?!?!?

I’m already being charged to put money in, take money out, pay direct debits, write cheques, clear cheques and for walking into my local branch to borrow a pen! Now they want more money! 👿

At least now I know how NatWest are affording all the TV and magazine advertising! As I say, at least ole Richard Turpin wore a mask when he robbed ppl blind! (:) (:) (:)

    Cheers, Dewi

I take it your with Natwest aswell …….. I am currently in process of looking into all the other banks to see what they have on offer!! Natwest are a complete pain in the backside, we do not even have a local manager ours is based in Cardiff now and I have to talk to her on the phone, well thats when she returns my call. We have just changed company name and so had to change bank account details it took them over a week to post one form out to me (:) the charges are silly!!!

Carrie 😀 hmmmmm ok Im feelling happier after that release of Natwest tension!!

I have a client that has been with his bank for over 20 years. He is a wealthy man by anyones standard.

Went to his bank to borrow $2mil and the bank charged him a $50,000 introduction fee.

When he questioned them as to what an ‘introduction fee’ was, they said it was their charge to ‘right up’ the paperwork.

He has a business that turns over Millions a year, and he gave them 5 minutes to withdraw the charge, or he’d change banks.

They didn’t, and he moved his account to another bank within the hour, got his loan with the new bank, plus a better interest rate.

I’d love to be able to do that to my bank!! 😕

I’m looking round for a new bank as well Carrie, I’m sick of paying charges for just conducting my business! I paid more in bank charges over the past couple of months than I’ve paid in business rates for my premises.

Maybe we should compare notes of what we find, two heads better than one and all that 😀 There must be a bank out there that doesn’t charge virtually 6% of the amount paid in!!

    Cheers, Dewi

    Hi all,

I’m with Abbey National Business Banking – no bank charges if you stay within certain depsoit limits per month. The way they get around this is there is no counter service what so ever, you mail in cheques or pay in cash/cheques through the ‘ole in’wall.

You can do do all the usual stuff check accounts, transfer money online plus telephone banking if you want etc etc. I find it very simple and very effective.

It works for me anyway – just my 2p’s worth (and no charges) :lol1:

I’ve been with Natwest for 8 years and I am becoming very dissatisfied.

A couple of weeks ago I had a phonecall from the Edinburgh branch asking me if they could make an appointment fro me to come in and meet with my new account manager. I refused but agreed to a meeting via telephone – this was set up for a few days later. At the allotted time, the account manager called and spent the next 15 minutes trying to sell insurance, loans etc. – nothing at all that was of any interest to me. Yet I had been expected to go running in to Edinburgh to meet with this guy simply to receive his sales pitch!!

The last time I had a query I was directed to a call centre who couldn’t answer my question and nobody ever got back to me.

Eight years ago my manager there was called Alan Coupe, a lovely man who used to call in at our premises to meet with us regularly and talk about our business. Sadly he retired a few years ago and the service has gone downhill ever since.

They are all the same.. does not matter which one you are with they are all a pain…
I used to have a really good manager, could always get hold of him on the phone or he would call in to see us. We built up a good relationship and never had a problem..Now my local branch has been closed, all calls go through a cental switch board, my business manager is not the same as my personal one, they change about every six months and if you want to borrow money or something you have to fit into all the correct little boxes… put everything including your shirt as security and jump through hoops…..then they charge you a fortune for doing it..

    cheers ian

Abbey Business as already stated no charges are minimal charges if you go over set limits, they also do a set rated scheme for larger businesses

Beware of Building Societies pretending to be banks!

They have no idea of business requirements, absolutely no flexibility whatsoever and are only glorified piggy banks for putting money into and then taking it out again. Anything more complicated than that and they are useless.

I opened one of those free Abbey accounts. After 4 months of chasing them to get a cheque book, paying in book etc. I went to make a deposit and the machine wasn’t working!

    I don’t bank there anymore.

If your like me just need a service for paying in cheques and drawing out then the Abbey is great.

No transaction charges for paying in cheques
    No monthly fee
    No yearly fee either
A cheque book with your trading name

As has been said just deal with the hole in wall

Can play about with it on the internet too

If you need a service like a Bank Manager and loans ‘n’ stuff
Then you might be better going to a high street bank

    John,

What do you do if, as I do, you occasionaly need a handful of cash?

I don’t have a cash card for my business, but the maximum I can draw out of my personal account is £200 a day.

The Abbey allows you to draw upto £500 cash each day via the ATM, but they do supply you with a Visa Debit card, so unless you really need cash the card should do the trick.

There is one thing I don’t like about the Abbey National – the vile colours used in their ‘new look’ :vomit:

banks are becoming more and more obscene, The more we move to a ‘cashless’ society the more the bWankers want.
I couldn’t believe it when barclays charged me for putting cash in!!

Guess where the cash stays now? in my sky off course.

You don’t get any of these charges with the abbey – in fact they even pay you interest !!

Not sure on a business credit card, I know they do a personal one.

They supply Visa Electron debit card

Downside: not accepted in a few places (but then I switch to my credit card if that happens)
