    Hi Guys

Does anyone know if there is an engraving tutorial dvd on the market. tried Master engrave but they said no.

I have bought 2 old roland 2300 engravers working like a dream, tried out loads of plastics through, but i am itching to do some infill on brass & stainless.

does anyone know of a dvd out there to show me how to infill with paints etc. ????

    kind regards

    simon

Hello Simon, When i do paint infills on brass I use a syringe filled with the paint. Just before it is dry I wipe of as much over-spill as poss, and then when dry buff and polish. Some of the plastics I use I have had problems with so I tend to stay away from porous ones and only fill ones that can be filled from the rear. You should not need a DVD for this mate, a bit of practice will see you right.

Have a look at Mastergrave, they have some stuff plus the Engravers Bible

I do quite a bit now, and as Steve says, get yer hands dirty and just give it a go. Caution on Stainless as you will need a cutting fluid, brass is a self lubricating metal and engraves a dream. If you are using a nose cone to limit the depth, remove the protective plastic and flood with std vinyl. It tends to stay on better and acts as a very good paint mask. :lol1:

I would probably give stainless steel a miss. Only a few of the larger, new machines will handle this without knackering the machine.
    Brass shouldn’t be a problem.
I leave the protective coating on the brass and add a layer of cheap, thin vinyl.Keeps the brass nice.
You should cut to 0.3mm on brass. With small lettering and logos just pour on cellulose and use a spreader to get right into the lettering, leave to dry and clean with thinners then polish.
For larger lettering I use Gravographs’ Gravolaque paint with a syringe. This flows much better than cellulose paint without thinning. This way, if done properly shouldn’t need hardly any or hopefully no cleaning up whatsoever.
Polish over with Peek metal polish and jobs a good’un 😎

    Hi Simon

Using vinyl as a paint mask is a good tip. If you do decide to engrave without the nose cone on the PNC2300, cut only 0.1mm per pass at around 10mm/s, to a total depth of 0.3mm. Then try the colour filling technique in the attached pdf.

    Cheers
