Lose the freebies Brian.

Pay £20 a year for ZoneLabs Antivirus & firewall. represents very good value for not quite the best – but a VERY good anti-virus / trojan solution.
Used it at home for the last 5 years and for 20+ work PC’s.

So far – it’s only ‘users’ that defy my will (AKA company policy) and surf dodgy sites – then install fake ‘cleaners’ that have got through the protection.

If you want I can sort you out with something at the weekend…we need to go for a pint / pie & catch up anyway!

Hope you get your trojan horse sorted – its a nightmare when something like that happens. I’ve always used norton internet security, earlier versions did slow your computer but 2009 seems ok so far.

Dave, I downloaded Ccleaner the other day and it did seem to find a load of crap on my system – is this one of the fake cleaners or is it OK to use.

Should be OK for lunch one day next week.

Monday & Tuesday are ‘full’…but Wednesday is a possibility (could be up in Stonehaven though…) if you’re not up to much you could always come for a jaunt & lunch. Will be on me this time!

Bring the offending piece of hardware if you wish. Trojans are usually nasty little buggers to get rid of…if you have stuff worth saving…do it now!

Ccleaner is a ‘real’ one…but like most ‘detect & remove’ a bit ‘bolting the door after the horse has run off’. Much better to stop them getting on in the first place! They mostly detect ‘tracking cookies’ and a load of Alexa stuff…nothing much to worry about if you delete / clear the internet history / cache regularly.

Hi Dave,
Cheers for that – thought I might have downloaded a fake one.

It does seem to work quite well, there were quite a lot of cookies/files even though i do a disc clean up, clear the temp Internet files, history and cookies regularly. The funny thing was after installing norton09 Ccleaner found a load of old or unused files in the registry off norton08 which was supposed to have been removed by the 09 version. Strange 😕

Just an added thought Ladies & Gents ….i was buying music from a company called 7 digital but lately real problems signing in …i contacted companyand they said no probs from thee end…same thing from amazon …could that be a virus problem ? and connected
