Tree Sap effect on 7year pre-coloured vinyl
Posted by Jamie Palmer on 20 August 2018 at 08:16Any other users of Metamark M7 had this? It seems to be happening more with the black gloss but not limited to just that colour. Tried cleaning it off but doesn’t seem to budge? Looks like a very thin layer of tree sap. Obviously not but thats the only way i can describe it. It had not been under heat, machined in any way, just off the roll onto a sheet of composite.

You do see that on a number of manufacturers gloss black. You could try heating it with a heat gun..

It’s something in the manufacturing process, a rep did tell me once but i can’t remember exactly what it is. It’s far more of an issue when it’s on a wrap vinyl you’re fitting to a high end car…

various reasons you get imperfections like this on the surface of the vinyl.
a common one is it being too tightly wound, then left for a long period of time.
as a result, the paper on the rear can have this effect on the face of the film.same applies when you get not only this blemish on the face, but you also get a spiral line on the face.
the line comes from the card core that the vinyl has been wound onto but normally only effects the last metre or two on the core. -
Agree with John, a gentle heat often removes marks like this

Damm ! I forgot to mention Brillo pads and possibly an orbital sander only as a last resort though :awkward:
Andy Gorman gave the advice on removing marks on vinyl with heat many years ago…good tip… ( do you ever hear from him Rob?)

There is always someone that takes it too far. :shake:
😆 😉
I saw him a few times at Sign & Digital UK after stopping posting on the boards. Same old Andy, good laugh etc. but i haven’t seen him at the show for a while now. maybe not in the trade anymore, but I could be completely wrong. There are lots of folk i bump into that dont post anymore, yet still visit here daily.
With that in mind, maybe worth saying…
"Andy Gorman, if you read this… could you come home, we are worried sick son. We dont care what you have been upto, just give us a call and let us all know your OK?" 🙁😆 😆 😆
