Tray to angle fittings
Posted by James Martin on 9 February 2009 at 21:30Hi
Designed and sourced a tray for a publican with 3d brushed aluminum letters and led’s.
Got it form Applelec and I don’t want to count my chickens as it hasn’t been plugged in yet, but so far the service has been excellent.
found them on the sign toolbar.
The tray is satin black and I’m looking to source some suitable screws to attach to the angle.
What would you guys be using?

Stainless countersunk screws, touch them with some matt black paint after fixing
B&Q or screwfix?Peter

Tks Peter
Obviously they will protrude slightly though, right, to avoid the tray slipping off?
Or am just worrying to much?

I think you are James,
The tray should have countersunk holes in and screws should be supplied as will a small bottle of the paint used to coat the tray.I say that as I have had a couple of similar from Appelec in the last few weeks, with another to order tomorrow. They are good, service and lead time.
But often the screws these companies supply are not to hot and I usually use as Peter suggests and touch up with paint.

Tks martin
Didn’t provide any screws or holes although as you say everything else was good.
Did provide the paint and another bottle of clear stuff which is probably varnish.
Its just hard to imagine countersinking into something that is so thin.

James, seems unusual they didn’t put holes in the tray.
The two bottles supplied, just mix a bit from each bottle together. As for making your own holes, shouldn’t be to difficult, just put masking tape over the mark then drill, helps the drill bit from slipping.
As long as the two angles are fitted at correct distance you’ll have no trouble and remember it’s usually only the bottom screws that will show giving you more le-way with top fixings.
You could always use black screw head covers for bottom, or the Ashby screws they don’t look as good but an option.

As Martin said Applelec are spot on and anything we’ve had came with coloured tappers,c/sunk holes etc. 😀

I get my stainless screws from SeaScrew, the A2 grade is good enough for the majority of applications……only need the A4 if playing with saltwater……….

interesting site that Graeme. I’ll come back to that.
Got the job done.
The Landlord used to be in the building trade and done most of the work.
In fact I learned a bundle helping him.
Had his own scaffold ,electrician, general good all rounder, and even a handy member of the bar staff pitching in.
Tks everyone.
