trailer signage help please?
Posted by John Stevenson on 5 August 2006 at 08:57Hi all
My client has bought a trailer with plain white PVC covers and wants an image applied to all sides.
The PVC covers all have metal eyes so printing is not an option.
The sides will remain in-situ but the back cover will be rolled up and down frequently.
Any suggestions?

Start from scratch sounds like a good idea 😮 Bit complicated otherwise!

You could print onto banner vinyl and stick it onto the pvc, not sure it’s a long term solution though, they may be better off having new sides made and printed before they are finished with eyelets etc.

If the back is rigid ide use a good digital vinyl and laminate.
however if it is ALL curtain/banner material like the sides the only option for doing this "in house" would be to digital print "Truck Vinyl" which I think you will have real bother locating one for printing. If someone like Avery do offer a "digital truck vinyl" it will cost allot of money.
Banner vinyl "wont" work so I wouldn’t go there as the curtain will be rolled up and down far too much, in turn causing curling and parts coming away from the curtain. It’s basically a short life vinyl, but even shorter when material is in constant use.
Your only real option and knowing your location is to contact Tony Beal in Baillieston, Glasgow. Take the curtain into him AFTER you have had a trade printer print direct to the curtain material. He will then properly hem and eyelet, fit straps etc to match the existing one. In fact it might be an idea to take into him first if you are unsure the extra banner material needed to leave as a bleed for hemming and the like.
personally, if this isn’t a big customer ide probably try shy away from this as I recon you will spend more time on it than you will make money. That said, it’s a good lesson to have learnt and not a massive headache as the vehicle is pretty small… could be worse, it could be a 44ft curtain sided lorry 😕 -
OK, Thanks Nik, Stephen & Lorraine.
Rob, this is a valued client so I’d like to help so I’ll try the Tony Beal suggestion. I’ve now located his address and phone number.
Your advice is much appreciated.

As rob says, you would have to use a proper curtainsider vinyl- 3M scotchcal 190 or avery do one very difficult to locate some and yes it does cost an arm & a leg.
