traditional signwriting: sizzling sausage co.
Posted by A Misselbrook on 4 October 2006 at 00:28Hi all!
I have just finished this job in Yeovil. Handlettered with one shot and not as easy to fit as we first thought!! 😎

thankyou! 😎 I get a bit carried away with blending the shadows and letters! I love it! But youdo tend to get stipplers arm!

Great stuff.
I always wonder how you hand painters get the consistent shapes from letter to letter, down to the last serif. Do you combine computer design with old fashioned painting? and work from a mask or just is it done by eye, whatever, the final effect really bounces, and I also love the hand painted substrata, it does add character over a perfect factory finish,Peter

Nice work as always aj!!
You will have to do a bit of a step by step on a mini sign one day for us all to see ? 😉

Hi Peter
I either hand draw the letters up or I do a paper drawing, for this one it was a drawing but I want to get hold of an overhead projector. That is something that I used to use all the time and I really miss it! 😥

Super work aj
Perfect kerning on the letters, I had assumed it was a mask
Great skill

Nice work Aj
Looks like one of those dreaded angled signs
Bit of a so and so to fit when they’re angled
What did you use to achieve the tonal shading?
I use a stencil brush or natural sponge -
nice job done aj on the sizzling sausages text 😀 😀
constuctive crits: i too still think the smaller lettering is a mask (or not) sorry but i comment on what i see, all the s’s are identical.. 😕

I havent got a vinyl cutter!! all my stuff is brushed 😎 The white sign was left as is and is not my work. I tried using sponges for shading but I find stipple brushes better to use as the bits of sponge break off in the paint…aaaaaaarrrgh! 😀

hi aj,
If you drew up and painted the panel under the ‘Sizzling Sausages’ you don’t need a vinyl cutter as the spacing/ kerning is identical to computer setting.
Well done
