Total covering course at Hexis Head Office – Sete – France
Hi, everyone, I just thought I’d share some pictures of my Total covering course I did at Hexis Head Office in Sete in France. September 2012
It was very intuitive, very difficult to start, they asked us to dry stick a 1mx1m pièce of Hexis Suptac S5000 directly onto a glass window. The first results where dog’s breakfast, as I’m sure you can imagine. There is definitely a technique. No doubt about that, and better to have a piece a little bit larger than too small.
The next challenge was learning to manipulate the material. That’s where the challenge lies, is to learn about the material and how it changes forms with heat. All the right instruments are necessary for this. We used tapistry chairs on wheels to move around the vinyl once it was stuck on the car body. Very handy. We also had a heat gun, and a white glove, jackson style. Things can go wrong so quickly, one really needs to think it through before starting. It reminds me of the Graphic designers mindset too. Asking oneself what is the final output needed and working backwards, to start at the beginning with the final output in mind. Cutting at the right place, leaving vinyle where concave must be filled. ect.ect. It was a great experience, still need to have a go at doing something myself. I’m getting the urge, I think this spring I’ll temp on my own car. Probably some graphite on the bottom sections of my car. Photos to follow. Here is never the less what I achieved in 3 days. It was very educational but very hard. Pull your hair out if you’re not really keen to learn.
For the car we used HX100WG2 with PC30G2
Happy viewing, and if you have any questions I’ll be happy to answer.
