Now that Rob has sorted my name and mugshot out, it is time to say hello.
Im a second generation signwriter in a small Irish town. My dad was traitionally trained, serving a long apprenticeship to the famous Molloy family of signwriters in Enniskillen. I have been signwiting alongside him (shading and second coating) since I was old enough to hold a brush. He passed away in 1991. Our claim to fame was the 120 banners we hand lettered (in two weeks) when Barry McGuigan won the world title in 1985. We were literally fed at the easel on that job! I have just ventured into the vinyl scene and am taking a few years out to rear my two boys. I still do work for good clients and intend to get fully into it again soon. This site has been a great resource, keep it up. Hope to be a regular poster.

    Howdy Harry.
    Pleased to meetcha.
I am a hand-letterer (since 1985) too, venturing into vinyl in 1998. I still do quite a bit of painting, and the vinyl is my bread and butter quickie-stickie income.
Are you familiar with the Letterhead movement at all?
I have been in the Letterheads since 1994.
I attended a Letterhead meet in Cork in 2003. Met a few cool folks there, at the FAS center. Noticed that your shading is usually done on the opposite side of ours.
Also met Brian O’Prey at a Letterhead meet in Mazeppa Minnesota, man can he letter.
I am attending a Letterhead meet this May in Scotland (there is info on this site) You might want to give it a try.
On another note, when my dad was a child, there was a fine gal of Irish descent named Margaret Molloy, attending the parochial school, who would steal the other kid’s chairs if they left their seats.
To this day, my family calls a seat-sitter Margaret Molloy.
    Love….Jill

    Thanks all,
Often wondered why you shaded on the other side Jill, is it to do with the position of the sun…lol
Jayne, I have had two or three exhibitions of watercolours myself, I neglected to say I escaped the sign business for 4 yrs to study Fine Art, it is only for relaxation though, unfortunetly.
